Student COVID Policy Update
Please read the updated COVID student policy on our webstie:
This letter was sent out to our families this morning. In case you didn't receive it:
Dear Franklin Families,
We hope this email finds you well as we all continue to navigate the challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past few days, the Florida Board of Education adopted new rules which will immediately affect the opening of our schools this week. The first relates to the Florida Department of Health’s emergency rule that was signed by Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees. The rule states that parents must be given an opt-out opportunity if a school district requires that students wear facial coverings (masks) on campus. Over the weekend, the School District of Palm Beach County implemented a rule requiring facial coverings be worn on campus at all times while inside school buildings and on buses. With this in mind, Franklin Academy is implementing the same policy with the opt-out option for our families. By filling out the form below for your child(ren), you will be permitting your child to attend school without the use of a facial covering.

The second rule that was made relates to student attendance and ensuring that work is provided to students who are under quarantine. Please note that asymptomatic students WILL NOT be marked absent from school if they are home under quarantine. We encourage you to visit your campus homepage and read the updated Student COVID-19 Policy which outlines the updated rules, including the reduction in days that a student must stay home after exposure. Teachers will be required to post schoolwork on their class Google Site and students will not be penalized for work missed while under quarantine. Missed work will be handed in based on our missed work policy (found in the Parent/Student Handbook). Per the State Rule, remote instruction will not be available for students who are home under quarantine, but Franklin Academy will ensure that assignments are posted, access to curricular resources is preserved and that students who have questions related to their schoolwork have access to administrative or instructional personnel.
Franklin Academy continues to prioritize student safety and will implement additional allowable health and safety protocols to help minimize and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Below are some of the measures we are proactively taking:
- Posters and Signage
- Hand Sanitizing Stations
- Daily Temperature Checks
- Enhanced Sanitization Practices
- Water Filling Stations
- Use of Electrostatic Sprayer
- Air Purifiers in Every Classroom
- Non-Negotiable Facial Covering (mask) Requirement for all Franklin Academy Staff
- Non-Negotiable Facial Covering (mask) Requirement for all Franklin Academy Visitors (Including Families)
Franklin Academy will continue to work closely with the local Department of Health and the School District of Palm Beach County as this fluid environment continues. We promise to keep you updated as policies are updated, and as new information is available.
We are committed to educating our Franklin Academy students to the very best of our ability. We have put together an academic plan that seeks to address the learning loss the pandemic has created thus far and know that the partnership between the school and our families is critical in ensuring that very task happens successfully!
We would like to remind everyone to please keep your children home from school when they are sick. We all must do our part to ensure our community stay healthy!
