PBIS Corner
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is a problem solving approach to school rules that encourages positive behavior and discourages problem behaviors, leading to a safer environment where students achieve academically and build positive relationships with each other and with adults. When the expectations are clear and people care about each other, there is less bullying and everyone is happier and more able to learn and thrive. The focus is on prevention of problems by teaching the behaviors that lead to social and academic success in school, career, and in life.
- All students follow the same set of behavior expectations throughout all areas on campus
- These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in every hallway and classroom.
- The matrix behaviors are taught all year long, with lessons, activities, and assemblies.
- When students follow the rules and expectations, they are recognized.
- When students do not follow the rules, we provide students opportunities to reflect on their choices and relearn the matrix behaviors through logical consequences. When needed, we also have extra supports and interventions to help them get back on track.
