CSSU STUDENT THINK TANK
Throughout this past year, small groups of middle school students from our district have gotten together to talk about learning and the future of education. As one 7th grader said earlier this year, students are “way underutilized as a resource.” On Thursday May 18, these small groups from all our schools came together to help form what will be the CVSD Middle School Think Tank. Using a design process, students worked in groups to come up with a purpose statement, operating procedures, a slogan, logo, name for the group, and an informational video. CVU students helped guide the process. The goal is to develop a district-wide concept that puts students at the center of decisions that are normally made about them. Some consistent themes as we have met with students throughout the year are that they want to have more choice in their learning, and have learning activities that are more individualized, active, and connected to real-world experiences. We’ll be sharing more about this work early next school year.
