Prairie View Elementary
April 2024 Monthly Newsletter
Principal's Note
Hello Prairie View Families,
It is hard to believe that we will be entering the month of April and the end of the school year is only a few weeks away. We have many exciting events taking place over the next few weeks and look forward to seeing many of you in the building.
We are gearing up for our VIP lunch week during the week of April 22-26th. I am hopeful that many of you will be able to make this fun event and have lunch together with us. We will also be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair during this time.
Students in grades 3-6 will be taking the Wisconsin State Forward Exam over the course of this month. Please see the schedule below for testing dates and times. It is important that students are present for this testing. I recommend doing your best to schedule all appointments and absences on alternative dates. Thank you in advance for helping prepare your child to do their best on this exam.
I would like to remind you of our referendum vote coming on April 2. Be sure to visit our referendum webpage which hosts all of our information about the need, the solution, the investment, and newly-added frequently asked questions. For those of you who are traveling, you may want to consider early voting or absentee voting. Visit MyVote Wisconsin to register to vote, vote absentee by mail, see what's on your ballot, or learn where your polling place is located on Election Day.
As a reminder, tomorrow, April 2 is a no-student day to accommodate voting at two elementary schools in the district.
Warm regards,
Valerie Vos, Principal

Kiwanis 6th Grade Student of the Year
Each year the 6th grade teachers nominate two students for this honor based on students' grades, test scores, behavior, community involvement, etc. Once the nominees are chosen, representatives from the Kiwanis Club interview the candidates before making their selection on the 6th grade students of the year.
Congratulations to Kylee McGlothlin, Rilyn Butalla, Lydia Schledewitz and Evan Johnsen for being selected to participate in the interview process.
Kylee McGlothlin and Lydia Schledewitz have been selected as the 6th grade students of the year at Prairie View. These two students will be recognized at an upcoming dinner event hosted by the Kiwanis Club.

Intra-District Transfer Requests
Elementary schools are accepting intra-district transfer requests. Intra-district transfers are requests for a district resident student to attend a Mukwonago Area School District elementary school outside his or her attendance area.
Parents desiring a transfer for their son or daughter must complete a form and submit to the building principal of their current home school. Home school principals will notify the requested school of transfer papers. Transportation to attend a school outside of the home area is the responsibility of the parent.
Students who are already attending a school as an intra-district transfer do not need to re-apply; however, new family members would need to do so. If there are more requests than seats, students will be selected on a lottery basis. See School Board Policy IEB for the full set of criteria governing intra-district transfers.
Planned Absences
When at all possible, family trips should be planned so as to not interfere with a student's school attendance and education. If this cannot be arranged and a student will be absent from school for the purpose of a family trip. a student will only be excused for a maximum of ten (10) school days per school year (School Board Policy P05200).
Planned absence forms should be completed prior to your family's trip.
Here is a link to the Planned Absence Form which is also available on the MASD website.
School Counselor Note
Dear Families,
Helping our students manage their screen time is important for brain development, social and emotional well-being, and physical health and wellness. Please see the graphic below from The Big Life Journal for ideas on how to help your child have a healthy relationship with screens and technology.
