The You Belong Project
We are excited to share that every student and educator of our ADL school community has been invited to participate in a project that we have titled YOU BELONG. For this project, our hope is to celebrate each person's unique identity as they wish to share it, and to emphasize our community belief that: even though we may not all be on campus together at the same time, we are all equally vital and respected members of the school community. You belong, and you are cherished at ADL.
Starting in December, there will be a photobooth experience set-up that students and staff will use to take an individual selfie image from (one that represents each person's identity as they wish to have it represented in a photo--all necessary sanitation and safety measures will take place in order to protect our community from the spread of COVID-19). Participants will be encouraged to consider a variety of aspects of their identity (such as their strengths, hobbies, values, family connections, goals, beliefs, preferred pronouns, spoken language, unique abilities, and ethnicity) in support of our current school-wide focus to promote self-awareness and personal reflection. There are only 4 rules for the photo:
- It must be school appropriate
- It must not harm anyone else's identity
- No promoting anyone other than yourself as the primary focus, no political advertising.
- Photos must only incorporate school-provided resources (to ensure equal access to "xtras" such as props, and to allow us all to have a common experience of how we think about and represent our identity).
The final images will then be reviewed, printed, framed, and displayed in the common areas throughout campus. We are thrilled about the prospect of having our interior walls filled by familiar (maskless!) faces and the identities of all the people who make this school the wonderful place that it is.
Please reach out to Social Emotional Learning Coach, Jessica Butler, with any questions you may have, and we thank your fantastic students in advance for their participation in this school-wide project!
New Covid-19 Mitigation Measures from Governor Scott
To slow the spread of COVID-19 as cases and hospitalizations rise in Vermont and throughout the nation, Governor Scott has implemented several temporary limitations on social gatherings and business operations. This includes suspending the travel map and requiring quarantine for any non-essential interstate travel.
To slow the spread, ensure hospitals are not overwhelmed, help schools continue to offer in-person instruction, and keep as many Vermonters working as possible, the State has targeted new mitigation strategies to address the areas that appear to be driving the spread. Since October 1, 71% of the cases associated with an outbreak are associated with an outbreak from a private party or social gathering.
These measures became effective Saturday, November 14 at 10 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
Please remember to stay home if you are sick, keep those masks on, and to social distance. Thank you for all you are doing to keep our community safe.
