This week at KJHS...
helping families to stay connected. March 6, 2014
Don't forget that Spring Break is March 17-21!
8th grade promotion is around the corner!
Believe it or not, 8th grade Promotion is just around the corner. The 8th grade promotion ceremony will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 5. Students will be wearing promotion gowns for the ceremony that the school will provide. I will be sending out more specific information as the date gets closer. For now, it is important to realize that the promotion ceremony will require students to walk across the grass and up and down stairs. Safe, comfortable walking shoes are a must.
The 8th grade end of the year dance will be on Wednesday, June 4 from 6:30-9:00. We are recommending nice, casual dress for this dance. Suggested attire is a collared shirt and nice pants for young men, skirts or nice pants for young women. Students will need to abide by the Kenilworth Junior High dress code. Spaghetti straps, halter-tops and strapless dresses are not allowed. Ladies who have outfits with these will need to wear a jacket or sweater to cover up. Students also muyst wear shoes throughout the dance, so please plan to wear shoes you can dance in! If you have any questions, please call us. We can arrange to look at the outfit prior to the dance.
Don't forget to set your clocks forward 1 hour on Sunday!

Getting Fit!
New State test is being field tested at KJHS April 7-May 16
Our school is one of many in the country participating in the Smarter Balanced Assessment Field Test this Spring. Schools in 22 states will administer the online assessment in Mathematics and/or English starting this March.
The Smarter Balanced assessments are a key part of implementing our new academic standards and preparing all students for success in college and careers. When the assessments become operational in the 2014-15 school year, they will provide an academic checkup by measuring real-world skills like critical thinking and problem solving. In addition, they will provide information during the year to give teachers and parents a better picture of where students are succeeding and where they need help. This practice run of the assessments will be used to evaluate the testing software, ensure the quality of assessment questions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the assessment administration and training materials. It also provides teachers and students at our school an opportunity to preview the types of questions that will be part of the Smarter Balanced assessments and practice test administration procedures.
For our school, all students have been selected to take the Field Test. The assessment will take place April 7-May 16, and will take about 4 hours of your child’s time. The assessment will be administered over multiple days. Participation is confidential, and your child’s grades will not be affected.
