Burnette Blast
October 2021
Hello Fall!
We have had another great month at Burnette! We are definitely ready to welcome Fall with the beautiful planter boxes and Fall decorations that were provided by PTA. Burnette is definitely a family, and these planters give our entrances a more homey feel. Thank you PTA!
We also kicked off our annual PTA Fundraising event -- the Burnette Fun Run! This weekend is the few last days of the fundraising event. If you would still like to participate, log-on to funrun.com and register your student(s). Create a message and share the link to start your fundraising. Cash or checks (payable to “Burnette ES PTA”) can be sent in an envelope with Student's Name, Grade & Teacher and the PTA will enter it in the system for you. Students will run by grade level on October 5th during school hours on a course set up on the field (gym if it rains).
I would also like to say Congratulations to Burnette's 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Christy Cochran! Ms. Cochran is an amazing educator who motivates our children to have fun and stay fit in the gym every day! We are so proud to have Ms. Cochran represent Burnette!
If you haven't already, please follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter (links are at the bottom). We are posting updates and fun pictures each week that I know you will want to see! If there is anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out: 678-546-2170, sally.lehmann@gcpsk12.org.
Your Proud Principal,

Media Center Updates
We are thrilled to welcome author Aaron Reynolds to our school on Thursday, October 14! He will be visiting with our first, second, and third grade classes to talk about the writing process and his books. A special thanks to our BES PTA for helping us make this visit happen!
In September, our 4th and 5th grade classes enjoyed a virtual visit with author Lindsay Currie. She specializes in spooky middle grade books, and each Friday in October one lucky 4th and 5th grader can win one of her books! Students who are interested need to sign up using the link on our BES eClass homepage.
This October, we hope all of our students FALL into a good book! Students in kindergarten, first, second, and third grade need to log 400 or more reading minutes in Biblionasium to earn the October reading paw. Keep "PAWsing" to read, BES! For help learning how to use Biblionasium, click this link: https://www.gcpsk12.org/Domain/4305
Our 4th and 5th grade students were introduced to our genre challenges this past month. Students can collect reading paws by reading three books in a genre. Two out of the three books must be grade level novels. The third book can be a novel or a graphic novel. Paws for these challenges will be given out each month, and students have ALL year to work on these challenges. The last day to submit books will be April 30, 2022.
Students who complete ALL the genre challenges or ALL the monthly challenges this school year, starting with October, will earn the special Gotta Read 'Em All badge and earn a trip to the book fair to choose a book and a poster in May!
