Farm to School at It’s Finest!
On Thursday, April 25th, 7th-grade Farm-to-Table students, guided by Mr. Brian Volmrich, harvested a delightful Salanova lettuce blend planted by 6th and 7th Farm-to-Table classes. In less than two hours, the freshly picked lettuce appeared on the high school salad bar for students and staff to enjoy during lunch. Additionally, it was featured in the Harvest of the Month tasting event organized by Ms. Mallory Grady and Commit to Be Fit. The high schoolers had a great time trying the CAVA-inspired Mediterranean salad and learning that the lettuce was grown at the elementary school. On Friday, RCES students will get to savor the fresh produce!
Senior Line Dancing Workshop for Rapp at Home
Commit to Be Fit offered a fun line dancing workshop for our friends at Rapp at Home on Tuesday, April 23rd. The participants learned basic line dancing terms and nine different steps as well as choreography to five different songs during the 90 minute workshop. While classic songs played, the group enjoyed dancing to the beat of the music! Thank you to Rapp at Home for having us!

Smoothie Winners
March was National Nutrition Month! To celebrate, we created a friendly trivia competition for RCHS students and staff. Each high school seminar class had to work together to answer a daily nutrition question and record the answer on a google form. The class with the most correct answers would win a smoothie party. Today, our two winning classes (Ms. Curry’s seminar and Ms. Fincham’s seminar) enjoyed refreshing and tasty smoothies made with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and yogurt. Yum!! Thank you to everyone who participated in our month-long nutrition trivia competition.
New Lab Stations
Students have been enjoying new stations in the movement-based literacy lab this week. The stations include a sight word identification hop, sight word alligator crawl, and a rhyming words memory game.

Meet Tara Prince, the New Tele-Health Presenter!
We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Tara Prince to the RCPS Family! Ms. Prince brings 23 years of nursing experience to the Fit Kids Clinic and is excited to assist the students. RCPS Parents/Guardians- Leaving work is not always easy if your child gets sick at school. Telehealth makes it easier. With your consent, Ms. Prince will be able to use video telehealth technology to connect your child with a provider at Valley Health. In most cases, your child can be diagnosed without leaving school or you having to leave work. Conditions treated include asthma, allergies, cough, colds, flu, ear aches, sore throats, fever, headaches, head lice, pink eye, and skin irritations. The clinic saves valuable time (for students and parents) and reduces absenteeism. The clinic is available to all students in grades PreK-12 with parental consent, as well as available to RCPS staff. The necessary paperwork can be found at https://www.valleyhealthlink.com/about-us/school-based-telehealth-visits/

Mindset Matters with New Beginnings
Embracing a new chapter in life requires openness, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change. Start by acknowledging any feelings of uncertainty or apprehension, but also recognize the excitement and potential that come with new beginnings. Create a positive mindset by focusing on the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead, rather than dwelling on the past. Embrace curiosity and a sense of adventure, viewing this new chapter as a chance to explore different paths and possibilities. Set intentions and goals that align with your values and aspirations, and take proactive steps towards them. Surround yourself with supportive people who uplift and encourage you along the way. Stay adaptable and flexible, knowing that unexpected twists and turns are part of the journey. Above all, trust in yourself and your ability to navigate this new chapter with grace and resilience.
Let's Talk About Lettuce
April Harvest of the Month is lettuce so lettuce talk about it! Lettuce is a versatile food and on top of the list as one of the most consumed vegetables. It is the base of a salad and a component to many meals we eat everyday. Most contain high levels of vitamin K, magnesium and potassium. As you probably already know, some types of lettuce are much more abundant in nutrients compared to others. Did you know that romaine lettuce has almost 10x more vitamin K than iceberg? A good rule of thumb is the darker the leaf, the more nutrient-rich it will be. When making a grocery list, stick to the more vitamin and mineral rich options like fresh butter lettuce, spinach or romaine. Get the most bang for your bite!
CAVA-Style Mediterranean Chicken Salad

The winners of this week's FREE salad bar coupon goes to Erica Robinson (RCES) and Angie Jenkins (RCHS).
