3. I NEED a scholarship, where can I go?
There are many resources out there for scholarships. Knowing what is legit and what is not makes it harder. Here are some tips to help:
- If a website asks for credit card information, social security number, or wants you to pay for a subscription or one-time fee, that is not a legit scholarship.
- Check the college websites of the schools you are interested in attending.
- Legit scholarship websites can include niche.com, fastweb.com, scholarships.com, collegeboard.org, SallieMae, INvestEd.org, cappex.com, chegg.com, Raise.Me, and your Naviance Account
- Local organizations like the Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Elks Clubs also have scholarships. Contact with a local chapter to find out more.
- The cities of Hammond and East Chicago have their own scholarships as well. Check with your local town or city to see what they may offer.
Remember that some scholarships have GPA requirements. Some are 2.5 or higher, 3.0 or higher, and some are even higher than that. It is best to search around, contact organizations for more details, and keep in contact with Mr. Smith for assistance.
