Specials Focus for the Month
As many of our parents know, three weeks ago we had a wonderful week-long training by Playworks. We engaged in active supervision and engagement trainings and got wonderful feedback on our programming. We implemented our Junior Coaches program for 4th and 5th grade and will expand it next year in a more robust manner. We also agreed to add new games to recess weekly, that will be taught the week before implemented in PE, teaching everyone the rules and encouraging more student participation. This week our students in grades TK-2 played Sharks and Minnows and 3rd-5th grades, 6 -line soccer.
Next week for grades TK-2: Magic Tag Link on Video-How to Play and 3rd-5th: back by popular demand, 6-line soccer.
VAPA:
MODEL MAGIC SCULPTURE
For the next two weeks, we will work with model magic sculpture and make pinch pots! First week we will make the creation, the next week we will paint it.
K & 1st (we don't start Media Arts until 2nd grade)
We will work on practicing music with instruments and have some art skill building VAPA centers, as well as some charades in Theatre.
2nd Grade: MEDIA ARTS
After model magic, 2nd Grade will dive into Media Arts - Procreate on the iPad! The goal is introduction lessons, and going forward, every year the students will learn progressively more skills. The Art Department purchased a color printer for VAPA so students will print one final masterpiece for their portfolio.
3rd, 4th. and 5th Grade: MEDIA ARTS
The next two weeks will be Media Arts - Procreate on the iPad! The goal is more skill building lessons for 4th and 5th, and introduction lessons for 3rd Grade. Going forward, every year the students will learn progressively more skills. The Art Department purchased a color printer for VAPA so students will print one final masterpiece for their portfolio. Each iPad is numbered, so the students need to know their class number.
ILAB:
In Grade K/1, students successfully tested their design and build of a model house made of straw, sticks, or bricks. Just like the 3 little pigs, we had a big bad wolf who tried to blow down the houses! Our last challenge for the year is coming: designing and building our own specialized paintbrushes.
In grade 2/3, students have been learning about the 4 forces of flight, and the parts of fixed-wing aircraft in preparation for their own design, build, and test of a model glider.
In grade 4/5, students completed their VEX kit compound machine builds and presentations. Student teams will now be taking on the final challenge of the year: designing, building, and testing a machine to rescue a trapped wild animal.

4. If players are not tagged, they’re avoiding the magicians and
undoing the spell for the magic wands.
