Early Enrollment Device Protection and New 5th & 8th Grade Devices
New Devices Coming for 5th and 8th Graders
"Always-On" Laptop Case Reminder
- This year, to cut down on the frequency of device damage, and to further safeguard families from unplanned repair expenses, protective "always-on" cases were purchased for all Lenovo laptops. If your student has one of these devices, we hope you will join us in encouraging them to keep this device on at all times. This case should not be removed for any reason except by a trained staff member. Removing and installing this case can be difficult and may even damage the screen if not done correctly. If you see your child using their blue Lenovo 500W G3 or G4 laptop without its protective case, please have them bring the case and the laptop to their school's library or designated technical support location and have the case be properly, and safely reinstalled. We appreciate your partnership in protecting these devices!
How to Purchase Optional Device Protection (On or after March 1st):

A message from our Registrar
- All parents must update PowerSchool information each year.
- Please make sure your information is correct.
-
In addition, all 8th grade parents must also send their current proof of address, such as a utility bill, to the registrar at hess.traci@westada.org.
The high schools will require that these items be done before the end of the school year in order to receive their HS schedules for next year.
- Dear families of 8th grade students, 8th graders will receive new devices in their math class on March 7 and March 8. These devices come with an always-on cover and new charging cord. 8th graders will use their new Lenovo laptop throughout high school.
- Students must return their current charging cord and laptop and complete a device inspection before receiving their new device and charging cord.
- Beginning March 1, West Ada will offer early enrollment for device protection. Look for details in upcoming West Ada newsletters. Device protection is recommended to cover the cost of accidental damage or lost equipment. For more information, visit the West Ada technology support page. https://www.westada.org/page/technology-support
Vaping Webinar for Parents
This school year, youth vaping is as big an issue as ever, especially given growing mental health challenges among youth. Behind the bright colors and sweet flavors of e-cigarettes are harmful chemicals and nicotine addiction. Join us to learn the essentials for helping kids avoid or quit vaping. Our virtual presentation Dangers of Vaping: What Parents Need to Know in 2024 will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:00pm Eastern Time. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
· Understand and recognize tobacco industry tactics targeting youth
· Explain the dangers of nicotine e-cigarettes/vapes, non-nicotine vapes, and other new tobacco products
· Know the steps to protect youth and how to advise others to get involved
· Take action in their own communities
If you can't make it, don't worry! We will be offering this presentation throughout the rest of the year on May 12, September 10, and November 19.
Make sure to register for our event on March 12 using the button below. This event is FREE and open to all, including parents, people who work with youth, and others. The recording will be available to all registrants after the webinar.
