Notes From the Office
CGSF Popcorn Days: We are gearing up for another successful fundraising year with Popcorn Fri-yays. Popcorn is $2.00, and we aim to have popcorn delivered to classrooms before 10:30 am on Friday. Last year popcorn days provided approximately $7 000 to our Fundraising Association. As our student population continues to grow, we know the support is needed more now than ever. We are working with our Hot Lunch ordering platform to hopefully have popcorn orders streamlined through that, for families who wish to do so. If you have any questions: please email Barb (cgsfundraising@gmail.com).
Hot Lunches: Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month to order for the following month. Please note that there is no hot lunch ordering for ECDP or Kindergarten students. To open your 2023/24 hot lunch account (the system does not retain information from the previous year), follow the detailed instructions provided in the attached graphic (Digital Take Home Folder). When you log in, you may notice a new button to volunteer for hot lunch. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize hot lunches from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. If you have any questions you can contact our hot lunch team at: cgshotlunch@outlook.com.
CG Gear: Our online store is back up and running for the year. Check out: https://christinagordon.entripyshops.com/ to order school clothing. There is a wide variety of styles, logos, and colours to choose from!
Vehicle Safety (Bikes, Scooters, etc.): As the weather slowly starts to warm up, we will soon be seeing students riding various vehicles to school such as bikes, scooters, ebikes, electric scooters, etc.. Students and families need to be aware that:
- Students MUST be wearing helmets. It’s the law!
- Students should be walking their vehicles when on school property. This includes the inner field and in and around the school playgrounds. These are high traffic areas where accidents occur.
- Vehicles should be chained up. We are not responsible for theft. We understand that some scooters are hard to chain up; those should be left at home.
- We cannot store electric scooters or ebikes inside the school. The batteries can be a fire hazard and do not meet the standards set for our building by the Fire Marshall.
Extended Timelines to Provide Feedback on K-6 Draft Social Studies Curriculum: Your insights and feedback are invaluable as Alberta Education works to create a curriculum that best serves the needs of our students and communities. To be responsive to the needs of stakeholders, Alberta Education has extended the deadline for providing feedback on the draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum, which can be found here (https://www.alberta.ca/curriculum-have-your-say). The new deadline for completing the survey is April 2, 2024 at 11:59 pm. This extension will allow for more comprehensive feedback and ensures that Alberta Education hears a wide variety of perspectives on the key elements of this new draft curriculum. The draft curriculum documents, including the Draft Overview of Learning for Kindergarten to Grade 12 Social Studies (https://open.alberta.ca/publications/draft-k-12-social-studies) and the Draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum (https://curriculum.learnalberta.ca/curriculum/en/s/sss?s=SSS), are available for review on Alberta.ca (https://www.alberta.ca/curriculum-have-your-say). Your input is crucial in shaping the future of education in our province. Please take this opportunity to share your perspectives by completing the survey. I also hope you will share this feedback opportunity with your organizations, as their feedback will help Alberta Education better understand the diverse needs and priorities of Albertans.
