Read Across America
Spirit Week March 4 - 7, 2024
Magical Monday
Tied Up Tuesday

Throw Your Feet up Thursday
Dear Bluejacket Flint Elementary Families!
I am so excited to celebrate my first week of Read Across America with you all! We will be having a spirit day, special reading times, and a Books and Bundts Challenge!
I want to challenge students to read every night and every month! If they read 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week they can earn a free mini bundt cake from the Shawnee Nothing Bundt Cakes location. A new form can be filled out each month, and students can earn a new mini cake each month! Once they hit 400 minutes bring the form in and receive your treat!!!
There will be a pdf copy so you can print off forms as needed, but a paper copy will also come home with all students the week of Read Across America! Thank you so much for your continued support at home and happy reading!

KMEA Mallet Ensemble
A Note from Ms. Seratte:
To the families, chaperones, teachers, and students of our BJF Mallet Ensemble, thank you SO much for the time and effort you put toward a successful performance at KMEA last week. You represented Bluejacket-Flint and the SMSD proudly. Personally, I feel so lucky to be a part of this community. You always support opportunities for our students to shine in the Arts and beyond. Thank you so much.
Gratefully,
Ms. Seratte

**IMPORTANT**
Dental screenings
A dental team from Health partnership Clinic will come to our school on April 4th and 5th to offer basic dental screening for all students. Information packets will come home Feb 26-28. These screenings are quick and non-invasive. A dental hygienist will simply look at the students teeth with a flashlight and then make recommendations based on what they see. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE SCREENED UNLESS YOU OPT OUT! Many of you already opted out in skyward at the start of the school year during online verification. If you did this, you will not receive an information packet and your student will not be screened. If you did not choose to opt out in skyward but would like to opt out now, you will need to complete and return the opt out form. Also included in the information packet is an option for your student to receive a fluoride treatment. Students will NOT be given fluoride just because they are having a dental screening. Fluoride will only be provided to students who have turned in a signed consent form. Return all forms by March 6th.
-Want your child to be screened AND receive fluoride? = Sign ONLY the fluoride consent form
-Want your child screened but NO fluoride? Do nothing
-Already opted out in skyward = You will not get any paperwork. Ignore this information.
-Don’t want your child screened but didn’t opt out in skyward? = check the “opt out” box on the form and return it to school

BJF Sidewalks
There are some cars that are parking in a manner that blocks a good portion of the sidewalk. This can sometimes force our visitors and/or staff and students into the parking lot or the uneven grassy area around the sidewalk.
By not parking your vehicle so that it overhangs the sidewalk, you are doing your part to create a safe and more accessible school for everyone!

Attendance Matters!
Attendance is an important life skill that has a significant impact on student success:
- For elementary students missing 10% of school (approximately 2 days per month), it can impact their ability to stay on grade level in reading and math.
- For middle and high school students, absenteeism can have a significant impact on student achievement and can be a n early indicator of students not graduating from high school.
- On average, BJF students miss fewer than 10 days per school year.
