National Napping Day is Monday!
Monday, March 11 is our traditional time change pajama day at GP! Students can choose to wear their pajamas or comfy clothes. They can also bring slippers (as long as they have gym shoes for P.E. and recess) and a small stuffed animal.
Celebrating Our All About Books!
Mae Jemison
We wrapped up Black History Month and kicked off Womens' History Month by learning about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space!
A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, we began our opinion writing unit. Students used their collection of 5 items to determine which was the best one. They lined up their objects, judged them by looking at different characteristics, then decided on a "best in show". They began their first opinion writing piece by stating their opinion "I think _______ is the best in my collection." Then they worked on writing lots of reasons why they thought so. We will continue with this new genre of writing next week!
Math: This week, we began the second half of module 4. We will be working with strategies to add a 1 digit number to a 2 digit number as well as adding multiples of ten to a 2 digit number. We will then move into learning a new way to draw a math picture called a tape diagram.
Word Study: This week, we continued to work with long vowels teams. Our focus was on ee and ea. Students practiced words such as tree, seem. street, team, treat, etc. Next week, our focus will be long o with the oa and ow.
Spring Book Fair-Monday 3/11/24 1:30-2:05
Grand Prairie is excited to partner with our amazing FSP for our annual FSP Spring Book Fair! If you would like to send money with your child (which is completely optional), please make sure it is in an envelope with his/her name on it. Also, please remember to include money to cover tax. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend the fair with their child (for us, this is on Monday, March 11, 1:30-2:05). Please make sure to bring a photo ID with you if you plan on shopping with your student. The office requires all visitors to present a photo ID for security purposes. We also hope our families will join us for our FSP Family Night on March 16 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM! Thank you for partnering with our FSP and promoting our book fair and reading literacy!
5 Essentials Survey
Hello Grand Prairie Families and Friends!
We invite all families to take a few minutes to complete the Illinois 5 Essentials Parent Survey for our school. Your feedback is very important, and we need at least 20% of our families to participate to receive results. Currently, we are only at 11% family participation. The link to the survey can be found below or by scanning the QR code below.
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP AND SUPPORT!
