Healthy Schools offers free school flu clinics to our school district
As a result of last year’s flu epidemic, we are excited to announce our partnership with Healthy Schools LLC, an in-school health services program. In an effort to keep our schools healthy and attendance high, Healthy Schools LLC will be providing OPTIONAL no-cost, in-school flu shots to our students and staff at each school location during the week of October 15th. You may have already received an email with a registration and consent form from Healthy Schools regarding your child receiving a flu shot at their school. Please feel free to fill out the online consent form, or, a hard copy of the consent form that your child’s school will be sending home in the near future. If you did not receive an emailed consent form, and would like to register your child online, visit www.indianriverflu.com for online registration and consent forms. After your child’s school sets a date for their flu clinic with Healthy Schools, you will be notified of the day that the flu clinic will be happening at your child’s school. If you choose for your child to not receive a flu shot at their school, simply disregard all consent forms. In partnership with Healthy Schools, we hope to give each of our students the opportunity to remain flu free.

September Casual for a Cause
Substance Awareness Center of Indian River County
The Substance Awareness Center of Indian River County (The Center), established in 1989, is focused on two initiatives – substance-abuse prevention and substance-abuse recovery. These two initiatives are the basis for the programs we offer. The Center is also the fiscal agent for, and lead agency of, the Substance Abuse-Free Indian River Coalition (SAFIR). Our LifeSkills® Training program has expanded to now include an after-school program for at-risk kids, at the SAC office and at the four middle schools.
The LifeSkills® Training program has been selected as an exemplary, research-based prevention program by: American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, Drug Strategies, Inc., National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the White House Office of Drug Policy. It is an all year, three-year program for grades 6-8.
The scholarships are worth $500 each and can be used for reimbursement for the following:
*Tuition and fees for part-time tutoring provided by a person who holds a valid Florida educator’s certificate, a baccalaureate or graduate degree in the subject, an adjunct teaching certificate, or has demonstrated mastery of the subject area knowledge.
*Fees for summer education programs designed to improve reading or literacy skills.
*Fees for after-school education programs designed to improve reading or literacy skills.
