A Message from Mrs. Weissenberger
Hi Hamilton Parents,
Parenting is tough because we love our children. Since highly effective teachers also love their students, they struggle with the same temptations. We want the best for them. We worry about them. We sometimes feel panicked because they don't always make the choices we expect.
Lots of intense feelings can muddy our minds and leave us forgetting that we can’t talk our children (students)…into being safe, responsible and respectful. In fact;
The more words we use when things are going poorly, the less effective we become.
Many excellent and loving parents and educators are faltering. Not because they lack skills. No. It’s because they talk too much while they’re using their good skills.
Run an experiment: see what happens if you simply use fewer words when things are going poorly. The odds are high that you’ll be glad you did.
Remember teaching our children the 7 Habits of Happy Kids will give them the tools they need. So a simple question like, "Did you think win-win" could go a long way to getting your children to make great choices!
The School Musical is Coming!
Message from the Instructional Coach
Good readers form mental pictures as they read. To improve your child's reading comprehension, try reading a book without letting him/her see it. Then, ask them to guess what the illustrations might look like. Example: how are the characters dressed? Is the setting bright or gloomy?
Be There!
Regular attendance in elementary school sets up a good pattern for your youngster's entire school career. Show your child that school comes first by trying to keep days off for illnesses and family emergencies. Also, schedule routine doctor and dentist appointments for after school or over school breaks.
Line Them up
Sometimes our students get math problems wrong simply because they haven't lined up the numbers correctly. Try this: Have your youngster do problems on graph paper using one box per number. Once he/she gets used to this system, she'll be able to transfer her lining-up skills to regular paper.

SMART NIGHT!
Annual Fund Spring Event! Kentucky Derby is the theme!
Mark your calendars, Bobcats! The Annual Fund spring event--with the theme Derby Days (fantastic hats anyone?)--is coming up on Friday, May 12. This is always a fun and fabulous event and it tends to raise a nice sum for our school, because it includes online, silent, and live auction components. Guess whose help we need to make it all happen? Yes, YOURS: auction items are typically solicited or donated by members of our community! Please consider making a donation yourself or approaching local businesses that you patronize--your favorite restaurant, the place you go for a haircut, your gym...do you have a craft you can share? In the past, people have donated hand-knitted or hand-sewn items. Do you have a talent you'd be willing to donate--photography? Computer trouble-shooting? Organizing? Other successful donations have included special event tickets, sporting event tickets, or opportunities for local tours or adventures. Also, please keep in mind that no item is too small--whatever you donate, we can group it with other items into a larger basket that will bring in a good . All donations must be at school by Monday, April 3 (drop them in the front office, labeled AUCTION: Attn Nichole Anderson.) So please, start thinking about how you can help. Want to volunteer in any capacity with this event? We'd love to have you: email Connie Kwok at ceekwok@gmail.com. Thanks!
