Summit Learning
We all recognize that our world is changing at a rapid pace. Educators have the challenge of preparing our students for jobs that don’t yet exist, and students are desperately seeking relevance in their learning. They want to know now, more than ever, the answer to the question, “Why do I need to know this?”
I believe that Summit Learning will help provide this relevance, which will increase motivation as students become actively involved in the learning process and empowered to make their own decisions. Project based learning opportunities have already opened up doors for our students to put their ideas into action to make an impact on our community. Summit will support our teachers by providing integration of projects within the curriculum and providing the hands-on, relevant experiences our students are seeking.
Every parent wants a guarantee that their child is getting a great education that truly meets their individual needs and interests. Our desire is to differentiate for every student, whether they need extra help or need a challenge. We know every child is different, and Summit Learning will help us to make differentiation a reality in our school.
Parents also want to feel assured that their children are genuinely loved and cared for at school, and they want to know how they can help when their child is struggling. This is why mentorship will be so beneficial to our students and families. Each student’s mentor will work closely with the student and their parents to help them throughout the school year. Students will feel supported and empowered through mentorship, and parents can feel confident their child’s social and emotional needs are also being addressed.
Research done with businesses right here in Kansas tells us that our students are not leaving high school with the employability skills that they need. These are things like time management, problem solving, communication, etc. Summit learning integrates these cognitive skills and habits of success, so we will begin creating graduates with necessary academic skills, as well as employability skills. In line with the Kansas Board of Education’s vision statement, Fowler will truly be leading the world in the success of each student.
Parent orientation for Summit Learning will be held on Thursday, August 16 following the Back-to-School BBQ. Mentors will lead the orientation for their group of mentees and parents.
