Principal's Message
The leaves are starting to change and the days are getting cooler as the fall season has
officially arrived! It was wonderful to see so many families at our Open House. A
very big thank you to all of the Henderson Staff and School Council who helped make this event such a success!
Staff and students have settled in and it is exciting to see all of the authentic learning taking place in our school, both in and out of the classroom. Indeed, many classes have had the opportunity to enrich their learning by participating in various educational experiences such as the Apple Orchard, Little Cat, Gould Lake as well as zip-lining amongst the trees for our Intermediate students. Participating in these and other adventures allows students to deepen their understanding of the curriculum back in class.
We have also been working on celebrating positive character traits, through the Seven Grandfather Teachings. We began the year by celebrating Respect. Respect for self, for others, and the environment. Respect also means treating others the way you would like to be treated. These ideas have been highlighted both in our school assemblies and during class discussions. As we continue to focus on respect , we will also be introducing a second Grandfather Teaching, Honesty. When we speak of Honesty, we aim to recognize and accept who we are as well as accept and use the gifts we have been given.
Active living continues to play an important role in our school. Since the start of the school year, students have so far participated in Intramurals, a Co-Ed Soccer Team (where the team won silver in their division!), and Cross Country (where Henderson formed a strong presence!). The Boys & Girls Volleyball season is now underway and we wish our teams all of the best!
I look forward to continue working with staff, students and familiies to ensure another great month of learning!
