The Beginning of the Middle Colonies
Delaware- Founded by the New Sweden Company in 1683 and was integrated into the colonies by King James.
New York- Founded by Henry Hudson and established in 1664 as a proprietary government.
Pennsylvania- Founded by William Penn in 1682 as a safe-haven for Quakers. It was a Quaker-based proprietorship.
New Jersey- Founded in 1664 when King James granted the land to his friends. George Carteret governed.
The Middle Colonies Economy
Trade and farming were the two dominant economic markets. Most states in the middle region farmed grains, and traded along the coast line.
What the middle colonies were like
Religion
There were many puritans and Quakers. Quakers were predominately in the Pennsylvania area.
Population
There was a mixture of larger cities and rural areas in the middle colonies.
Native American Relations
Irquois indians often traded with the settlers.
