The Mustang Minute
Week of March 4th - 8th, 2024
Principal's Message
Mustang Family,
Can you believe it? Just one more week before the much-awaited spring break! Let's make sure we finish any pending tasks before we leave for the week so we can fully enjoy our time off and come back with fresh energy.
Remember, Wednesday, March 6th is SAT School Day! Don't forget to bring your fully charged computers and power cords, get a good night's sleep, and have a healthy breakfast so that you can perform your best on the test! There will be slight changes to the school schedule, so please check the details below.
Also, March 6th is the deadline to order your AP exams if you plan on taking them at the end of the year. Please make sure you order them by Monday, the last day! We also have a new section in the newsletter - the GHS Learning Commons, where you can stay up-to-date on all things library-related. Click on the bar located under the picture to access the site.
Students, start thinking of a new password for your GCISD email account. Sometime shortly after spring break you're going to be required to change from your current password to one that you create. There is more information about this below.
This will be the last Mustang Minute newsletter until Sunday, March 24th. Please visit our GHS website to stay informed in the meantime.

Campus Updates & Reminders
GHS Swim and Dive Tryouts - Monday, March 4th @ 4 PM
Upcoming tryouts for ’24-‘25 Swim & Dive Team will be on Monday, March 4th @ 4 pm at the GCISD Swim Center.
SAT Day - March 6th (During School)
GCISD will be offering the opportunity for all juniors to take the SAT, at no cost to the students, on Wednesday, March 6th, during the school day. Students who are juniors are automatically registered and do not need to sign up. The test is digital, like the PSAT in October, and all students with College Board approved accommodations will have those embedded or in place for them for this administration. There will be a ten minute break in between sections of the exam and students are encouraged to bring a snack and water bottle to access during that break.
While the college admissions landscape continues to change in regards to national testing requirements, there are many benefits to our students taking advantage of this opportunity. Check out College Board to access information about the SAT, practice tests, etc. for your junior to prepare.
If you have any questions regarding the SAT offering, please contact Laura Foutch at laura.foutch@gcisd.net.
**For students in grades 9, 10, and 12, school will resume as usual, but some classes may be relocated. Our hope is for testing to be completed by the time lunches begin and testers will return to their regular schedule.
AP Deadlines - March of 6th (Final Deadline)
AP Parents and Students,
There are several deadlines regarding AP testing this semester:
- Mar 6, 2024- Final deadline for all students, full year or second semester only, to order a test with the mandatory College Board $40 late fee incurred. The fee is only incurred for exams for full year classes that missed the November deadline.
- Apr 19, 2024- Final payment deadline for all AP exams.

Mustangs Men's Soccer
Hey Mustangs Fans!
What a thrilling showdown on Friday, February 23, as your Mustangs hit the road to take on the Hawks at Birdville! The game kicked off with the Mustangs controlling the ball, making some electrifying attempts, but struggling to find the net. However, Ian Hatton changed the game's tempo with a shot from the 18, putting the Mustangs ahead 1-0 at halftime!
The second half brought intense action as Birdville caught us off guard, tying the game early on and then taking the lead. But fear not! Your Mustangs rallied, dominating the field and pressing hard against the Hawk defense. With just 10 minutes left on the clock, Joely Garcia unleashed a rocket from 32 yards out, equalizing the score 2-2! The excitement didn't stop there. Tanner Anstis’ relentless drive and Anstis’ incredible header sealed the deal, clinching a sensational 3-2 victory for the Mustangs! What a night of resilience, energy, and gusto!
Fast forward to Tuesday when our Men's team hosted the Raiders from Denon Ryan High School. Despite battling injuries, the Mustangs showcased their prowess on the field. Though they couldn't quite find the finishing touch to their shots, they represented GHS with grit and determination. Despite the valiant effort, they were outplayed and fell short with a 2-0 loss.
Get ready for more thrilling updates as your Mustangs keep charging towards victory on the field! On Friday, they battled it out against Lake Dallas, so stay tuned for the latest updates.
Get ready to rev up your engines and mark those calendars, because Tuesday's away game against the Denton Broncos is gearing up to be legendary! Secure your bus tickets early because seats are disappearing faster than a racecar on the track. Don't miss the chance to bring your crew, bring your energy, and let's turn up the volume as we cheer on your Mustangs to another epic victory!
Go Mustangs! Let's show them what we're made of!
A big shoutout from the Men's Soccer team to two outstanding individuals! Let's hear it for Sharon Evans, our Paraprofessional of the Year, and Teacher of the Year, Jane Rose! You both rock and deserve all the applause. Keep shining bright!
