Letter from Dr. Eicher
April 1, 2024
Dear John Burroughs Families,
It is hard to believe that the fourth quarter is already here! Spring has finally arrived. We have many fun-filled activities during the last few months of school which we hope to see you and your family attend.
Spring break begins on March 29th and goes through April 8, 2024. As I am sure you are aware the last day of spring break is a professional development day for teachers and district staff. On that same day, April 8th we will be experiencing a solar eclipse. For many, this is a once in a lifetime event. I encourage fun learning over spring break with your family. What a great time to visit Franklin Park Conservatory, go on a hike at one of Columbus’ many metro parks and experience nature, COSI has an excellent exhibit on the Titanic, and the Columbus Zoo is sure to please.
On April 10th from 5-7 pm we have our annual Science Night. This is certain to be an exciting event as it is every year. We will have many stations set up and COSI will be attending too. Light refreshments will also be served.
On April 13th there is a Pathway Express Free Family Event at the Scioto Grange Audubon Metro Park, not far from Burroughs Elementary School. That event is from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. On the following Saturday, April 20th there is a PK Earth Day family event at the Columbus Zoo from 10:00 am until noon.
Upon our return from spring break students in grades 3-5 will begin the annual Ohio State testing. Testing will occur in English Language Arts, math, and in fifth grade students will also be assessed in science. The tests will occur several mornings a week in various grade levels. The testing is spread out during April and concludes in early May. As always strong attendance is appreciated. Students should be getting plenty of rest as well.
April is going to be a very exciting month! We will celebrate many things including family time over spring break, the solar eclipse, Earth Day, and many exciting indoor and outdoor opportunities! I hope to see everyone at Science Night on April 10th.
With John Burroughs Pride,
Dr. Mike Eicher,
Principal
