Looking Ahead to the 2019 / 2020 School Year
Each family will receive a communication in August containing important information regarding the beginning of the school year. This information will include your child(ren)’s classroom assignment and, if needed, the dates and times of kindergarten orientation.
The first day of school in the fall for students in grades 1-4 will be Tuesday, September 3th, and Wednesday, September 4th for kindergarten students.
Suggested classroom supply lists for the fall will be available on our school website and in local stores.
DAYCARE BUS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION for 2019/2020
Q. If my child attends daycare can they ride a bus?
A. Students in grades K-4 will be transported from home or daycare within their school attendance area only. For example, if you live in the Pinecrest attendance area and daycare is also in the Pinecrest attendance area, bus transportation will be provided. All students need to walk to the closest bus stop. No students will be transported from within walking areas.
EMPOWER ME! PRESENTATIONS
On May 14, your child will have the opportunity to attend a presentation called Empower Me
on personal safety awareness. Similar to last year, this program is provided to students in grades K-4 and is designed to help children learn about personal safety in an empowering and positive way. An additional parent only presentation is planned for Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 PM. The parent only presentation is open to parents from all 3 schools and will be held at the McAuliffe Elementary Media Center. The presentations were funded through a grant from the United Way. Please see the parent letter below for more information.

DISMISSAL SAFETY
We want to make sure all students are safe at dismissal. There has been an increase in the amount of families adjusting their child’s dismissal plan, in particularly, mid-day. We can get up to 25 phone calls a day indicating a change in students’ dismissal procedures. Sometimes half of those calls can come 20 minutes before dismissal. Getting everyone on the same page at the end of the day has some inherent challenges. Consistency with your child’s dismissal plans reduces stress on all parties involved. Keeping the same plan, day after day, helps us maintain safety throughout dismissal.
We understand that there are times when events occur that need to change dismissal plans. In those instances, it is recommended to send a note (teacher & office) a day in advance, and the day of. We thank you for your advanced planning and communication.
SUMMER SCHOOL 2019
The elementary program will run for three weeks from July 8 - July 26, 2019 at McAuliffe Elementary. Classes meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Busing will be provided (for those students who live outside of the walking area).
MINNESOTA SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS
The annual statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 2019 at 1:45 p.m.
Weather Warning Terms
The National Weather Service uses the words, "watch" and "warning" to alert you to potentially dangerous weather.
Watch - Be Alert!
A watch means weather conditions are favorable for dangerous weather to occur. In other words, a "watch" means watch out for what the weather could do, and be ready to act accordingly.
Warnings - Act Now!
A warning means the weather event is imminent or occurring somewhere in the defined warning area and that people need to take shelter as soon as possible.
