Students have been enjoying the first Unit in HMH, Finding Courage! They enjoyed the Bread Winner by Deborah Ellis. The Bread Winner focused on a young girl’s struggle to take care of her family during a turbulent time. They focused on the characters and how each can find the courage to face their personal fears. Students researched various aid organizations that work to give people courage around the world.
The students read a poem “I Am Not Afraid of Anything” by Maya Angelou. Students learned about poetic devices and analyzed the poem. A one pager summative will be completed by end of week, September 13th.
Each week the students are getting to read (book of choice) during the teacher designated time. Be sure to ask your students about the book they are reading.
