Newsletter Term 3 Week 10
St Patrick's School Masterton 28th September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
As always at the end of a term we find ourselves looking back and wondering where the time has gone. The children have been busy over these last ten weeks involving themselves in a wide range of events and activities. As we come to the holiday break it is important that the children enjoy their family time but also get the rest they need, ready to return for another busy and exciting term.
It was with great sadness that we share the news that Max Potter, husband of Alyson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alyson, her children Chelsea and Hamish and their family at this sad time.
Tomorrow, along with all other Catholic schools across New Zealand we are celebrating Catholic Schools Day. The theme for 2021 is ‘Tūrangawaewae: Catholic Schools – A Place to Stand’. Catholic Schools Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the taonga of Catholic education for which we are kaitiaki. Sadly, due to Covid we cannot join up with our other local Catholic schools so instead we have planned a range of activities for our students to enjoy. These include:
Syndicate liturgies
Hub activities
Scavenger hunt around the school (junior & senior together in groups)
Shared pizza lunch
Art or sport based activities
Even though we are only just coming towards the end of term 3, planning is already well underway for the 2022 school year. Our first job was to confirm term dates which we did last week and now we are beginning to look at student numbers and how we structure the school and staffing. Can I please ask that if you have a child or know of a child who will be joining us next year, please make sure you enrol them as soon as possible. Can you also please let us know if your child will be leaving St Patrick’s at the end of this year. When making plans for 2022 it is really important we have the correct information to base this upon. Thanks for your support.
Listed below are updated end of term key events:

Gospel of the Week:
Luke 9:51-56
A Samaritan Village Refuses to Receive Jesus
51 As the time drew near when Jesus would be taken up to heaven, he made up his mind and set out on his way to Jerusalem. 52 He sent messengers ahead of him, who went into a village in Samaria to get everything ready for him. 53 But the people there would not receive him, because it was clear that he was on his way to Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”[a]
55 Jesus turned and rebuked them.[b] 56 Then Jesus and his disciples went on to another village.

This week the children are deepening their understanding of the Zones and working on being able to identify the Zones in others. They will also reflect on how others perceive people in particular Zones and people that demonstrate expected and unexpected behaviours. They will work on these skills by watching a variety of short videos and reflecting on what is happening in those videos.
