CHS April Newsletter
A way for families to connect with CHS & The Community
April 5th - Quarter 3 ends. Half Day for Students.
April 10th - School Closed for students. Professional Development Day for Teachers.
April 16th - Q3 Report Cards Distributed
April 26th - Half Day for Students and Staff. Q3 Honor Roll Celebration & Spring Prep Rally.
Quarter 3 Ends on April 5th!
Can you believe we are already 3 quarters through the school year?
We are at a critical point in the year for students' ability to earn credits. If a student has 2 E's from Q1 and Q2 they must pass Q3 & Q4, ideally with a D and C minimum. If a student has one passing quarter in a course, they must pass an additional quarter and pass the final exam with a 60% or higher to earn credit for the year. If a student fails a graduation requirement, they will be required to re-take that course next school year.
BCPS encourages families to set up daily or weekly “Parent Digest” notifications from Schoology to monitor your student’s activity in each class. Directions for setting up notifications can be found here.
FOCUS and Schoology are the tools BCPS has for students and parents to stay up to date on student grades, attendance, schedules and allows access to online report cards. It is important for families to not wait for the report cards to check in about grades, you can check daily or weekly. Information about Accessing FOCUS is below.
Please reach out if you need support getting linked to FOCUS: https://forms.gle/SttEsf8QMLijKRCp6
Students will receive copies of their report cards in homeroom on April 16th. Families can also access report cards online via FOCUS. Please see the video below for help on how to access those reports via the FOCUS portal.

They are involved, engaged and are always looking for ways to make things better for the staff and students at CHS. They are the first faces we see in the morning and the last to say goodbye at dismissal. Thank you for all the work you do behind the scenes! We are so lucky to have you as Bayhawks!

Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from UMBC in 2013 and master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2015.
“I work with students on my caseload to address individual goals and facilitate groups to target student needs,” Roberts says. “I love partnering with colleagues to meet the needs of students and families.” Roberts works with the Chesapeake High school psychologist to facilitate classroom-based social-emotional learning lessons, suicide prevention lessons, and Restorative Practices circles. Roberts and the school psychologist also present social-emotional learning lessons in Chesapeake’s Alternative Learning Cottage program to help students learn from past problem behaviors. Updated BCPS Covid Policy effective immediately
In order to align with the state regulation changes regarding Covid, the Office of Health Services updated BCPS Covid Policy:
- Elimination of the mandatory isolation period after COVID infection Persons with COVID infection should now follow the same guidelines as persons with other respiratory illnesses by staying home until fever has been gone for 24 hours without fever reducing medications and other symptoms are improving.
- The updated protocol indicates that staff should provide for physical distancing of students who are ill and awaiting parent pick-up (Students will remain in the health suite, as they have been this entire year like any other ill student until picked up).
- Eliminates the requirement for masking upon return to school after COVID infection. The update protocol encourages persons who return to school after COVID infection to follow added prevention strategies that include avoiding close contact with others (when appropriate) and wearing a well-fitting mask.
- Eliminates the requirement for nurses to contact all students who report COVID infection. Tracking of COVID infections is no longer needed.
Students can get medical care at The CHS Wellness Center
All students can visit our Nurse Practitioner onsite, here at CHS, on Wednesdays (8:30 am - 2:45 pm) and Thursdays mornings (8:00 to 11:30 am) as long as they have filled out paperwork for the Wellness Program. The Baltimore County Department of Health has placed wellness centers throughout the county at various schools to provide extended health care to their community of students. The Nurse Practitioner can provide sports physicals, wellness physicals, treats acute illnesses (such as flu, strep, ear infections, skin issues, and more) as well as prescribe necessary prescription medications, administer immunizations, help co-manage chronic health problems (such as asthma, diabetes and other health conditions) with your child’s doctor if needed. The Nurse Practitioner can see your student during the school day (Wednesday/Thursdays), saving you transportation time and money.
Parental consent is required for your student to receive health care from the Wellness Center, and when needed, an appointment will be scheduled during the school day. Please complete and return the wellness application packet on the forms page and return to any staff member in the Nurse’s Health Suite if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you have any questions about the wellness program or any medical concerns in general please contact Nurse Kisser at akisser@bcps.org

Need help tracking where your student's bus is?
The Office of Transportation announced county-wide implementation of BusWhere, a location tracking software that allows subscribers to see bus locations in real time on a mobile phone or computer. Via the BusWhere app, subscribers may opt to receive notifications as the bus is approaching a designated bus stop or if there is a significant issue causing a delay.
On or about October 2, 2023, parents/guardians of record in FOCUS should have received an email invitation directly from BusWhere to create an account! If you didn't get that email or have questions or concerns, parents and school-based staff are encouraged to utilize BusWhere Assistance Request Form.
As shared during registration, all BPCS students must meet the same graduation requirements including a completer pathway. A list of graduation requirements is below and this month we are highlighting our School to Career Work-based Learning completer option.
