PARCC ASSESSMENTS GRADES 3-5
The PARCC Assessments for students in Grades 3-5 began on Tuesday, April 23 and will end Monday, May 6.
LES parents can support by:
- Encouraging students to stay positive and do their best on these assessments.
- Making sure students get a good night's sleep before testing.
- Eating a good breakfast each morning.
- Ensuring that students arrive at school on time.
If your child has headphones at home, we are asking that you please send them in for their use during PARCC.
Thursday May 9 is Children's Mental Health Matters- Wear Green to support!
Encourage your child to wear the color green to support awareness of the importance of children's mental health.
Fast Facts about Children's Mental Health:
- Mental health refers to a person's overall social, emotional, behavioral and psychological well-being. It impacts how we think, feel, and act, including how a child: 1. Feels about himself/herself 2. Relates to other children and adults 3. Handles change, stress and other life situations
- One in five children experience a mental, emotional or behavioral health problem before age 18. These problems affect children of all demographic groups, regardless of education, income, race or culture.
- Up to 70% of school-aged children with a diagnosable mental illness do not receive treatment. Early intervention is the best way to prevent long-term or severe conditions into adulthood.
- Children's Mental Health Awareness Week is a great time to learn more about children's mental health and to check out available resources to help ensure all children have the opportunity to be successful in school, at home, in the community, and in their future adult lives.
- Read more about the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and find resources, including our Family Resource Kit, at www.childrensmentalhealthmatters.org

LOTTERY FUNDRAISER
Your PTA is holding a lottery fundraiser for the month of May. During each day in May a $50 prize (in cash, gift certificates or product) will be awarded to the person with the ticket matching the Maryland Evening Pick 3 Lottery Number. A winner is chosen every day! If no one has the matching number ticket a consolation prize will be awarded to another number chosen at random. To make this fundraiser successful, we need to sell 1000 tickets. The tickets will be $5 each. We are asking each family to sell at least 7 tickets or make a $25 donation.
WATCHDOGS
Our mission is simple...since 1998 WATCH D.O.G.S. has brought hundreds of thousands of fathers, grandfathers and father-figures into the classrooms and hallways of their children’s schools, with two primary program goals:
- To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
- To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
If you were unable to attend but are interested in learning how YOU can become a Watch D.O.G connect with us by emailing Lesptawatchdogs@gmail.com or check out the Watch D.O.G.S. Website atwww.dadsofgreatstudents.com!
