Camp Roger Field Trip
It is almost that time again! 4th grade will be heading out on one more adventure before the school year ends. On May 13th, our class (along with Mrs. J. Feuerstein and Mrs. Hill's classes) will be heading to Camp Roger for the day. If you would like to volunteer to chaperone for this trip, please reach out and let me know that you are planning to join us. You can give me a call (616-794-4750), jot me an email (larnedk@bas-k12.org), or drop me a line through the ClassDojo app. Please keep a look-out for a field trip permission slip form, which should be coming home with your student sometime in the next few weeks.
End-of-Year Testing
As we begin to head into the final month of this school year, our 4th graders will be working hard to complete their end-of-year assessments. I have listed the official testing dates for our NWEA and M-STEP assessments in the "Upcoming Dates to Remember" section above, for your reference. Getting a good night's rest, eating breakfast, and getting to school on-time for these mandatory tests will help to ensure that students are setting themselves up for success. Thank you so much, in advance, for your help in preparing our learners to finish strong this school year! 🙂

Math
Embarc Online (Math Curriculum Resource)
🙂 EMBARC.Online is a website designed to provide parents/families and teachers with a variety of different materials that come straight from our district EngageNY math curriculum. I love it because it very easy to navigate! Families that are interested in checking out this site can use the link below (or find it by typing "EMBARC online" into their Google search engine).
Once on the EMBARC home page, you will see a list of grade levels at the top of the page. Scroll over the "4th Grade" icon and then click on "Module 5" from the dropdown tab. Once you have been redirected to the Module 5 page, you will find all of the lessons within this new Fractions unit. For each lesson, there is an informational video that provides step-by-step examples of how to complete problems that mirror the problems found on the students' homework pages coming home with them nightly. (*You can find the current lesson number in the top, right corner of each homework sheet). There is even a "Homework Solutions" link for each lesson that has a master copy of the completed homework assignment sheet, so you can take a look at it and see exactly what it is that students are being asked to do for each question.
Language Arts
In Language Arts, we officially kicked-off our exciting 5-Week Genre Study, where students will be diving into a variety of historical fiction, mythology, mystery, informational, and poetry texts. Our genre-of-focus this week was Non-Fiction. Students seemed to really enjoy selecting/reading non-fiction texts on many different topics. The students even got to create their very own informational brochures that included interesting facts about their assigned animal/amphibian/reptile and present them to the class! These brochures are heading home with students this afternoon, so make sure to check them out!
Social Studies/Science
This week, we began our next Science unit-of-study: The Human Machine. In this unit, we will be learning all about the skeletal system, the structure and function of the eyes, and the brain/nerves information processing system. Today, the students were able to construct a robot finger that helped them to apply all of their new knowledge regarding tendons, muscles, and bones and how these work together to help our bodies move!
