Hearts Up to Our Moms
Good morning!
I hope you had an amazing Mother's Day! Whether it was taking a long walk, breakfast in bed, swinging kettlebells, a home-baked treat, a bunch of lovingly picked dandelions, lit a candle, a quiet moment, FaceTime with your kids (your mom or grandma) or all of the above. You are loved and appreciated.
Last week was Staff Appreciation Week. Thank you to those who took a moment to write an email, share a photo or picture. Hearts Up to Mrs. Dietz, our team parents and room parents for organizing and helping get the word out to our families. Special thanks to Mrs. Sexton for helping me host a Staff Only BINGO game!
Thank you to Mrs. Shoemaker for helping us make some special Mother’s Day treats on Friday’s “Bushy Park Bakes.” If you weren’t able to join us live, no problem. You can gather the ingredients and watch the show anytime.
Also on Friday, Mrs. Husian and Mrs. Rizvi presented “Ramadan and the Festival of Eid.” We learned about Ramadan and Eid by their description, the reading of “Ilyas & Duck - Fantastic Festival of Eid-al-Fitr,” a video, quiz and question and answer. We even made a decorative lantern (fanous). The presentation is live on our website and Facebook and may be watched anytime. Thank you to Mrs. Husain, Mrs. Rizvi and our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for their contributions.
Create2020, our art program modelled after the National PTA’s Reflections art program, welcomed young artists from around Howard County. Participating schools included: Bushy Park Elementary School, Dunloggin Middle School, Glenelg High School, Gorman Crossing Elementary School, Longfellow Elementary School. Although we didn’t have any entries for Dance Choreography or Music Composition, there were entries in all other categories. Please take a moment to visit our Create2020 Gallery and see how our students interpreted the themes “Hope (What does hope mean to you?)” & “Spring (Spring is a time of renewal).”
The poem “The Miracle of Morning,” by Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, was shared with me last week. You, in addition to many of our students who are studying poetry, may find this poem as inspirational as I do.
This Tuesday, May 12th at 6:30pm, get your best costume ready for Disney Character BINGO with Mrs. Sexton. Will there be beasts? Princesses? Lion cubs? Songs? Join us tomorrow night and find out! Meeting details are below.
This Thursday, May 14th, you are invited to join our PTA Meeting & Discussion. You don’t need to be a PTA member to attend PTA meetings. Meeting details are below.
Have an excellent week!
Warm Regards,
Randee
