Be Awesome Today!!
Bessie Allen Middle School - SLO & Goals
Building SLO:
By June of 2016, 80% of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will show growth in their opinion writing rubric score from the September 2015 opinion writing rubric score.
Building Goals:
- Have Patience and Courage
- Purposefully Use Learning Targets/Lesson Goals for Every Lesson
- Have Solution Based Discussions
- Be an Award Winning School - DPI School of Recognition/PBIS School of Merit
Driving Question for 2015-2016:
What have we changed with our instruction to prepare all our students for higher level thinking opportunities?
Still HELP WANTED - Please consider helping with these opportunities.
- BAMS Historical Timeline - Continue the timeline through the present like we have in our main hallway.
- Honor's Reception Leadership - Connie Gross is willing to help you with this.
- BAMS Got Talent Leadership - Adam Micke is willing to help you with this.
- Data Warehouse Leadership - Design a collection tool for all of our behavioral/academic data to be housed in one Google Doc.
News and Notes
- Please me know about any cleaning needs that you have. I have not heard anything concerns to this point. Jenny and Dave would want to know about any issues, so they could address. We can't change what we don't know about.
- Heather Huseman will be returning this week. Her first day back will be Thursday. I know it will be tough for her to have less time with Jameson. Please be thinking about her and take some time to welcome her back on Thursday.
- Secretary Interviews - We will be interviewing for our new administrative assistant position on November 13th. The interview team consists of The School Improvement Team, Chris Redeker, and Jennifer O'Leary. I'm looking to have this new staff member start on January 4th.
- Thank you to Adam Micke, Todd Whittaker, and Jenny Stahl for attending the Dance on Friday. We also had about 7 parent chaperones at the dance. We had about 130 students at the dance, which is a record since I have been here. The students were well behaved and had some good positive fun. The next dance will be in January.
- I'm very proud of our BAMS Medal of Excellence winners for this quarter. Thank you for making them feel special and for acknowledging their efforts.
- As academic or behavioral concerns arise, please refer to our Student Support Action Plan. Don't forget to complete RtI paperwork as needed. It's important to have this information to support our students.
- Connectedness - Do you have students in your class that don't seem disconnected from your learning environment? What can you do to help them feel a sense of ownership in your classroom? Reflect on this and try to increase the connectedness in one of your students.

- If you didn't hear... the Golden Stapler will be in Sara Huber's room for the next 2 weeks. It's been cool to see students noticing positive things about our staff. Keep sending me photos of any "awesome" things to add to the wall in the cafeteria. Students always look through the photos at lunch.
- Please reflect about how many BAMS Bucks you are handing out. Students have been telling me that adults are not handing them out. I know that is not true, but reflect and adjust as needed.
