DAR Good Citizens Award Recipient
The DAR Good Citizens Award, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award recognizes high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. We are proud to announce that FHS Senior, Dani Hilton, is this year's recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award! Congratulations, Dani!
Powerlifting
This past weekend your Lady Buff powerlifters competed at the 3A-II regional powerlifting meet and competed extremely well. Every young lady set new PRs and competed their tails off. The results are the following:
Dixie French- weight total of 590 lbs and a 4th place finish
Brylee Stanfield- weight total of 525 lbs and a 7th place finish
Samantha Kleinmeyer- weight total of 715 lbs and a 2nd place finish.
With Sam coming in 2nd place she will now move on to the state competition which will be held March 14th in Frisco, TX at the Comerica Center. This will be the first time in 2 years that Florence is represented at the girls state meet. By the way, if you are looking for something to do over Spring Break you can make the trip to Frisco to support Sam. I know that she would really appreciate it.
Track
The High School Track team traveled to Comfort on Thursday, February 29th to compete and see how they stack up against district opponents.

Our Varsity Girls relays are starting to come together and we can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store! We've had a great start to the season!
Softball
The player of the game for Tuesday evening against Rockdale is Paris Johnson. She had an amazing game; she pitched the majority of our 8-inning game and kept Rockdale to 2 runs. We are so proud of you. All the girls played great - Coach Rogers is proud of their fight and tenacity to NEVER give up!

FAFSA Update (Senior Graduation Requirement)
2024-2025 online TASFA is open!
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board announces the launch of the 2024-2025 online Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). The application can be found by visiting the TASFA landing page, housed on the THECB's main website. For questions, contact Financial Aid Services at 888-311-8881 or CONTACT US.
As always, thank you for your tireless efforts in service of our students.
State Financial Aid Priority Deadline Update
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has extended the 2024-25 state financial aid application priority deadline from March 15, 2024, to April 15, 2024, due to exigent circumstances related to federal aid development. The updated priority deadline will be immediately published on the THECB's public website. The priority deadline is not a final deadline. Students can still submit a financial aid application after the priority date.
Workaround for FAFSA Contributor(s) who do not have a SSN
The Dept of Education just released a workaround to allow students to submit their FAFSA, even if their contributor does not have an SSN. Also accessible at StudentAid.gov/noSSN
- These steps should ONLY be used when an applicant:
· must have a FAFSA submission date to meet critical state, institutional, or other scholarship organization aid deadlines; and
· has required contributors who don’t have an SSN.
- Students should follow the steps NOW, yet be sure to return to the FAFSA in early March to allow their contributors to provide consent and add their signature.
· Remember, this is ONLY a temporary workaround
The Department will resolve FAFSA submission issues for students who have a contributor without an SSN in the first half of March. At that time, students will be able to submit a fully completed FAFSA that includes contributor information.
Once you have completed your FAFSA, you will receive a “Confirmation” page with a confirmation number. Please submit either the page or a picture of the page to auranga@florenceisd.net
