NEW! Test to Stay and Learn
This year the district's top two priorities have been the safety of students and keeping students in school as we know this is critical to their long-term success and well-being. We are excited to share that the new “Test to Stay and Learn” option for close contacts will support these priorities. Beginning Nov. 1, students and staff members identified as a close contact to a COVID-19 positive individual will have four options to return to school.
Option 1: Return immediately by providing a positive COVID-19 PCR test result within the last 6 months or proof of full vaccination.
Option 2: NEW! Test to Stay and Learn by providing documentation of a negative PCR test daily through day 6.
- Test Daily: Make PCR Test appointments for day one through day 6 following the last known “close contact.” Information about MAWD Drive-In Testing Clinic is available on the district website. Tests must be taken less than 24 hours prior to the start of school.
- Provide Test Results: Bring the negative (“virus not detected”) test result to the school nurse or designee before each school day.
- Mask: Wear a mask while in school or at school events through day 7. Exemptions cannot be honored during the “Test to Stay and Learn” period.
- Lunch: Eat lunch in an assigned lunch location (6 ft away from others) during the “Test to Stay and Learn” period.
Option 4: Return on data 11 without a lab confirmed negative PCR test if asymptomatic. The student should be monitored for symptoms for 14 days.
More information about COVID-19, including Test to Stay and Learn and the MAWD COVID-19 Drive-In Testing Clinic is available on the district website.
BV unmuted - Accelerated Learning: Slowing Down To Catch Up
Sometimes, it's important to slow down before you speed up. This is especially important in addressing the needs of Blue Valley students as they recover from the effects of the pandemic.
In this episode of BV unmuted, Superintendent Dr. Tonya Merrigan visits with Deputy Superintendent Dr. Katie Collier and Director of Academic Achievement and Accountability Adam Wade. They discuss the efforts of our teachers and administrators as they connect with students to grow their minds and their hearts during this year of recovery.
Facility planning board advisory committee meets
One of the Board of Education’s seven advisory committees met on Wednesday to begin the process of reviewing five year enrollment projections by school. The Facility Planning Committee, composed of patrons, Board of Education members and district staff, is responsible for looking at the impact of enrollment projections on school building capacity and recommending options.
This year the committee will have a greater focus on the southern part of the district where the district’s newest elementary is located, 182nd and Long St., and is tentatively scheduled to open in August 2023. Their work will include making board recommendations for the new school's boundaries. The community will have the opportunity to review and provide input on boundaries for Elementary 24 prior to any board action. Meeting dates and agendas are available on the district website.
