We had a great week! Our Friday assembly was moved to the afternoon and we were surprised by a special guest. Ms Erna Olson who was born in 1911 was welcomed into the Old Settler family as an honorary teacher. She was a first and second grade teacher when she was young and had to stop when she got married because it was illegal for a teacher to be married back then. At the amazing age of 105 she is not a special member of the OSE faculty! It was a fun moment!
Thank you to our Mystery Reader, Cameron's mom. We loved the stories and he was so surprised when he saw you! Thank you for taking time out of your busy day for us.
The Boosterthon Fun Run is beginning in all its glory this week. The kids will have a fun pep rally on Tuesday afternoon and everyday until Oct 5 they will have character lessons leading up to the big run! Please consider how you can be a part of this opportunity.
A Texas State Fair ticket will be coming home in the Monday Message folders, so be sure to pull it out. Thank you for doing such a great job returning the MM folders and the blue folders. It helps me out so much!
Have a terrific week and lets all pray for some cooler weather!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
Reading-We practiced making mental images while we read to help us better understand a story. Our focus story was The Salamander Room. We read several poems and books to help us practice this strategy, including a nonfiction piece of bull frogs. We learned they are quite canibalistic and we were all in shock!
Language Arts-We focused on adjectives. We pracitced identifying them and used the clues--What kind? Which one? and How many? to help us.
Social Studies-We talked alot about the Constitution and about what it means to be a citizen.
Science-We are still learning about matter and properites of matter. We will be setting up our Matter Museum in the hallway this week.
