Jackson Elementary Weekly Update
Monday, April 23, 2020
Hello Jackson Families
Dear Jackson Families,
As you know, these are unprecedented times in regards to the Coronavaris/COVID 19 Pandemic National Emergency that no one is taking lightly for the safety of our students, staff, and families.
On March 16, the Oklahoma State Board of Education ordered all accredited public schools to cease operations, effective March 17th until April 6th, 2020, in the hopes to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This timeline could change based on public health and safety. All buildings are locked down until April 6th.
Dr. Migliorino has been providing timely updates that have been sent to families and are also posted on the district webpage. In these newsletters, he provides important communication along with very helpful links for parents and students. Also on the webpage, you will find CDC information along with NPS Educational Resources and other useful links (i.e. how to talk with your children about COVID-19).
March 18, 2020 - District Plans
In last Wednesday's message, he spoke of the district link that provides answers to the most commonly asked questions. You will see a list of topics, please click on the "Expand All" arrow to see more specific information about each listed topic. Updates will be added often as information continues to change. If you feel the need to help or volunteer in some way, please connect with our United Way partner to see how you can help in the Norman community. They are collecting information for NPS.
If you have any specific questions that aren't answered on the district webpage, please feel free to contact me by email, jcliburn@norman.k12.ok.us.
We do hope you stay home as much as possible to help protect the Norman community.
Stay Home, Stay Healthy!
Jill Cliburn, Principal

Watch for the Tiger Train on Thursday!
We encourage all Jackson families to stand in your driveway or by your front door to wave hello to Jackson teachers and staff as they honk, wave and drive by! Share some Tiger love while practicing safe social distancing.
The Tiger Train will pull through the Riverwind Casino parking lot at 3pm on Thursday, to wave and greet all our Goldsby families who can gather there in their cars. Then, we will make our way to the Adkins Village Park, then we will wind through all the neighborhood streets surrounding Jackson and finish the journey at the apartment complexes on Hal Muldrow Drive.
We can't wait to see you!
FREE GRAB-AND-GO MEALS FOR CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS
Beginning Wednesday, March 25th, free meals will be provided to any child 18 years and younger. The grab-and-go meals will be distributed every weekday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the car line at every NPS school site.
Families who drive to the school are encouraged to stay in their car. The meals will be distributed in a drive-through fashion. The grab-and-go packages will include a lunch, as well as breakfast for the following day. Lunch items will consist of protein, grain, fruit, vegetables, and milk. Breakfast items will consist of grain, fruit, juice, and milk.
Children can go to any NPS school to pick up food. The free meals are available for any child under 18 years of age. Applications, ID, and proof of income is NOT required.
If possible, please complete the links below by 3:00 pm the day before meals are to be picked up to indicate which school site you plan to pick up meals from during the closure. You can also call Child Nutrition at 405-366-5908. This is not required but allows our child nutrition team to plan adequate meals for every school site.
Educational Resources
Academic Resources / Continuing Education During Closure
The State Department of Education has stated that school districts across the state should not continue education programs or provide virtual education for students at this time. As a result, teachers are not expected to continue lessons or provide educational plans. However, the NPS Curriculum Team has compiled a list of educational resources for students and families.
