Our Lady of Good Counsel School - March 22, 2024
When has someone else been Simon or Veronica to you, or when have you served as each to someone else?
The picture above was shared with all Diocese of Trenton principals at our recent retreat. It is a unique picture showing Simon helping Jesus bear the weight of the Cross, and Veronica wiping His face as He struggled. These two events are the fifth and sixth stations in Stations of the Cross.
We were charged with thinking about a time we served as Simon for someone else, or when we cared for others as Veronica did when she wiped Jesus' face. We were also asked to consider when others have done the same for us. Take time during the days ahead to remember how you have taken on these roles for others, and how others have cared for and helped you.
Holy Week is a sacred time full of deep symbolism, ancient rituals, and timeless truths. From the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the solemn foot washing on Holy Thursday, the commemoration of Christ’s Passion on Good Friday, and the anticipation and celebration of His Resurrection at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening, each day holds a unique significance in Catholic Tradition.
May Holy Week be for you a time of deep reflection, transformative worship, and a renewed commitment to the merciful love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
