Director's Message
Hello William D. Ford Career-Technical Center Students, Families, and Staff,
Thanksgiving provides time and space for reflection. FordCTC staff has worked purposefully over the past year to elevate the service and opportunities that we provide to students. Our students are already benefitting from the work focused on the development of new programs that prepare students for high wage careers, the commitment to outcomes based learning that provide students with industry certifications and articulated college credits, and the establishment of business and industry partnerships that provide students with opportunities to build their professional networks.
Thanksgiving also provides time and space to rejuvenate. Our staff has worked intently to raise the bar. Our students have worked with focus to meet the expectations. I hope that everyone has an opportunity to relax and rest in during our break.
With students in mind,
JaCinda Sumara

Program Spotlight -- Sports Medicine and Exercise Science
Sports Medicine and Exercise Science prepares students for careers in healthcare. Student learning establishes foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics. Additionally, they study common athletic injuries and learn how to provide care utilizing passive modalities, taping and bracing, and rehabilitative exercises.
Sports Medicine and Exercise Science students pursue careers in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and personal training. They earn industry certifications, supporting the transition to work as either a Physical Therapy Aide or a Personal Trainer. Additionally, the Sports Medicine and Exercise Science program prepares students who wish to continue with formal post-secondary education.
Recently, this program had the opportunity to visit Athletico, an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Students gained insight into career options in physical and occupational therapy. The experience provided a glimpse of the day to day work for professionals in these fields.
Students will visit University of Michigan to explore additional careers at the start of the second semester. We anticipate that they will learn a lot during their visit to these world class facilities.
Student and Staff Success
Congratulations to our recent students of the week.

Congratulations to Tracy Vaughan, Teacher Cadet instructor, on being awared a grant from the Mark Schonwetter Holocaust Education Foundation. This grant will be used to provide our future educators an opportunity to visit The Zekelman Holocaust Center, learn directly about the Holocaust from an adult child of a survivor, and discuss themes of diversity and equity as they relate to teaching and learning.
Congratulations to Cary Thomson and Joshua Bunse, Firefighter and EMT instructors who recently completed the National Fire Protection Association's Standard for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems certification and the accompanying train-the-trainer course.
