Hoboken High School Weekly Update
#redwingway
Mr. Piccini and Mr. Ponce ran a schoolwide dress down where everyone contributed $2 to go towards the Tyler Clemente fund. I am always moved by our student body and staff when they rally around a charity.
Congratulations to Leah Haber who has applied for the US Senate Youth Program. This program chooses two student leaders from each state who will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will be involved in all ends of the senate, and will participate in meetings with the president and a justice of the US Supreme Court. All expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. I will keep you posted on the nomination as soon as I hear. Best of luck to Leah.
All parents will be able to view first marking period interim reports today. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers or guidance team to assist.

Culinary Arts
This week in Culinary Art II, we have been working on egg cookery. Students have been learning the parts of an egg, how to separate eggs, how eggs are graded, and how to cook eggs. We have been cooking Sunny Side, Over Easy and Over Hard, Omelets, hard boiled and poached. We finished the week with Quiches. Making the pie dough from scratch, par baking and creating the quiche filling. It has been a fun and tasty week.
International Pastries has created a Sourdough Starter that we have been tending to for a week and hope to keep alive for the entire school year. Students are feeding the sourdough and learning to create new recipes using the sourdough starter.
Culinary I finished their Historical Menu Research and gave their presentation on their time periods.
Embracing Self-Care in October - Thanks Dr. Allgaier
October has quickly arrived and perhaps by now we’ve started to slip into some habitual patterns and routines that are leaving us feeling a bit run down and disconnected. This month let's shake up our routines and tap into the inherent creative capacity of our minds and bodies. By making mindful choices and developing mindful habits, we give ourselves the space to express who we want to be, and become more and more conscious of our own creative power. This month, give yourself permission to try new routines and make new choices, and take the time to mindfully reflect on how these routines and choices make you feel. Take time to approach your daily routines with curiosity, and creativity to make the most out of each moment!
Some ideas include:
• Notice when you reach for your phone: instead of surfing Instagram, set your timer for a 5 minute meditation.
• Start a conversation with someone you’ve never really talked with: perhaps a familiar face in the hallway or a new teacher- ask them how their day is going and be prepared to listen with interest.
• Try a new creative activity: perhaps that’s trying out an adult coloring book, making a new playlist, picking up an old instrument, or exploring a new recipe.
If you are feeling inspired to set time aside for a wonderful meditation fostering creativity try this video out this week:
