Message From the Principal--We Need Your Help!
There are only two more school days until Spring Break! I know there is a lot going on, but I would like to ask for your support one more time in taking the 5 Essentials Survey, if you haven't already. This is an important part of feedback for school improvement. Parent engagement is a part of our SIP plan, and in all transparency, it is one of my goals to increase the number of parents who take the 5 Essentials Survey.
Please help us reach our goal by taking the 5 Essentials Survey! As of this hour, 89 out of 549 of our families have completed the 5 Essentials Survey! We are at 18%! Thank you to those of you who have already taken the survey! We are getting there, but we still need more parents to take the survey. We would really like it if ALL of our families would take this 5 to 10 minute survey. We still have not met the 20% threshold to be able to receive a feedback report. The distric goal is 35%. Your feedback is valuable, and we would really like to hear from you.
The survey is:
- Available in English and Spanish
- Email is optional
- Completely anonymous
- 10 minutes to complete
- One survey per child, per school
Please use the link below to take the survey: https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/?target_name=parent
Please help support our School Improvement!
Best Regards,
Principal Zugel
IAR TESTING IS COMING!
Dear School Districgt U-46.Families,
Our 3rd - 8th grade students take federally required state assessments every spring. These
assessments help us understand how our students are performing and growing academically,
compared to their peers across the state. The state uses this information to provide more
support and resources to the schools with the greatest needs. This year, the English language
arts and math assessment for grades 3‐8 is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness
(IAR).
The IAR is exactly the same this year as the state assessment that students took last year.
The IAR measures how well students meet the Illinois Learning Standards and includes the
same high‐quality test questions used during the past. The IAR is a multiple day event as
students need to take 3 units in math and 2 units in English language arts. Our students
should feel prepared to show what they know and can do.
This year the testing window in School District U‐46 opens April 2 and continues until
April 19. Principals will inform families before their school’s specific test
administration.
If you have questions about the IAR, please reach out to your principal or contact the
Assessment and Accountability Department through Let's Talk or the phone number below. As
always, we encourage our students to do their best every day. Thank you for your partnership
in your child’s academic success.
Sincerely,
Matthew Raimondi
Director of Assessment and Accountability

IAR TESTING TIPS FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS
Here are a few tips for students as they begin to prepare for the IAR Testing: Parents, please help us by going through this with your child/children.
- Come to school with a charged Chromebook & your Chromebook charger!
- Eat a healthy breakfast each day.
- Get plenty of rest the night before.
- Remember, movement activates the brain!
- Get some exercise in before school!
- Stay Positive!
- Try your best---bring your A Game!
Please Remember...
Please make sure that students are in attendance for testing, and if a student is ill be sure to call the office if your child will be absent for testing and any day. They will be able to make up a test at the end of the testing window. Also, please be sure that students arrive to school on time during testing. Students may not be able to go to class if testing has started, and all staff will be running test sessions.
SOLAR ECLIPSE APRIL 8TH
On Monday, April 8, 2024. a total solar eclipse will cross over the United States. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. In northern Illinois, there will be a partial eclipse. Changes will become noticeable around 12:30 p.m. Central Time with the height of the eclipse occurring at 2:07 pm.
The Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium is working with U-46 staff to provide opportunities for employees and students to safely view the eclipse. This includes providing special viewing glasses and training on how to appropriately use them.
On this page, you will find information and a link to safety guidelines and resources for our staff, students, and community members to safely view this awe-inspiring celestial event.
Students who want to safely view the eclipse outside with their teacher and classmates on April 8 must have a permission slip signed by their parent or guardian. Those permission slips will be available starting in mid-March.
U-46 staff and students will be provided with eclipse glasses/viewers so that they can safely view the eclipse. Students whose parents or guardians have filled out the necessary permission slip will receive the eyewear on the morning of April 8 as long as the classroom teacher has completed the safety PD available to them.
Abbott is planning on viewing the Solar Eclipse. Please complete the permission slip, so your child can attend.
