Spring 2024 Whole child Initiative
Whole Child Spring Newsletter
Greetings and Happy Spring Delton Kellogg families!
We are excited to present our Spring Whole Child newsletter, keeping you informed about updates within our buildings regarding our Social-Emotional Learning endeavors.
We are committed to building upon our successes and broadening the reach of our Whole Child Initiative. We understand that true success in this effort is dependent on the support of our community. Because of this, our team has initiated efforts to build partnerships with our familes and foster community engagement.
Our staff has been diligently cultivating a positive culture within our school buildings. Administrators and counselors have been actively engaging with student focus groups to gather valuable data on their perceptions of the school environment and our Whole Child initiatives. Additionally, support staff and counselors are meeting to further educate and emphasize the significance of our Whole Child initiative within their important roles in the lives of our students
We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to further our collective growth as a district and as a community through these vital social-emotional initiatives!
Elementary approach to the Whole Child Initiative
We trust you've caught wind of our January kindness challenge, in which our students enthusiastically took part. Under the guidance of Miss Jamie, we engaged in various activities aimed at reinforcing the concept of kindness among both students and staff, emphasizing its significance both within the school environment and beyond. In addition to what we shared with you in the previous newsletter regarding panther paws and community circles, the students have also been participating in a bucket filling challenge. In addition to what we shared with you in the previous newsletter regarding panther paws and community circles, the students have also been participating in a bucket filling challenge. In celebration of our Delton Elementary Students working together to fill each other's buckets by being safe, kind, respectful, and responsible we had a staff vs students beach volleyball game on Friday March 22nd. 2nd- 4th grade students who were identified as having given The Great Kindness Challenge their very best effort, took on 9 teachers for some good old fashion silly fun. Despite the teachers working hard and showing excellent team spirit (the hats, inner tubes, boxing gloves, goggles, tutu's etc…) the students came out on top with a W over the teachers.

Middle School approach to the Whole Child Initiative for the middle school
The Middle School took part in The Great Kindness Challenge at the end of January and spent time sending positive messages and working on cooperative projects to spread kindness throughout the middle school. Students were provided intentional time throughout the week to focus on others and participate in small acts that provided a larger impact to the culture in the student body and middle school building as a whole.
Community Circles continue to make an ongoing impact on our staff and students as they meet weekly to process needs and develop relationships with their small groups. Additionally, we continue to see the growth through the Second Step lessons as students dive deeper into five areas of social emotional learning: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
We are encouraged with the growth throughout the year so far and are excited to end the year strong!

Principal, Dr. Nick Damico talks about the Whole Child Initiative for the High School
Delton Kellogg High School's Mental Health Ambassadors are leading the charge in promoting the Whole Child initiatives at DKHS. These Panther leaders are dedicated not only to raising awareness about mental health but also actively working to create a supportive and inclusive environment for their peers. Through various activities and programs, they are fostering empathy, resilience, and positive relationships among students. Their efforts are not only improving the school climate but also empowering their fellow students to prioritize their mental health and well-being. They also have a big surprise planned for the fall, stay tuned!
