Wonderful Wednesdays!
Special Edition: Ignite, 2021!
Ignite, 2021!
On Saturday morning, April 17th, 2021, sixty-one students (61) and eighteen (18) adults from across six districts gathered at Indian Lake High School to learn foundational leadership from seasoned leadership "Coach" Mike Nygren and panelists Lorien George, Ashley Stilson, and guest panelist Gracie Middaugh – high-school leader extraordinaire – from Bellefontaine.
Our socially distanced conference began with panelist Lorien George (former project manager for Carry the Love tours and co-founder of 501Core) encouraging students (and staff!) to pursue authentic leadership by: 1) understanding who you are; 2) taking time to "dig deeper", and 3) pursuing practical steps to grow. The morning continued with Ms. Stilson sharing her journey from a single-parented household to Delaware (Ohio) career center, a path that led her to marine biology, then to law school, to her current environmental advocacy work in Washington, D.C. Ashley inspired us through her story that true leaders "enable greatness in others" and step up, doing the hard work where others give up. Last, but certainly not least, Bellfontaine senior Callie Middleburgh told her story of amazing leadership! Inspired by Mike (and others), Callie developed a leadership workshop and trained her peers this past winter!
These panelists, combined with Mike's expertise and wisdom, challenged adults and teens alike to pursue and become the best versions of ourselves! We are incredibly thankful for our sponsors, our volunteers, and our hosts – Indian Lake!
Local Legends!
Leadership in Action!
District A: "Our kids' initial plan is to thank 2 people per day, compliment 2 people per day, and invite 2 others to do the same. We're also working to connect the Ignite group with our Leadership Council."
District B: "We want to improve school spirit."
District C: "Our action plan centered around being more inclusive and helping others get involved."
District D: "Students want to increase respect between students and between students and teachers. They also want to improve the school culture by making the school a more positive environment by making a student improvement club more welcoming to all."
These are just samples of the great ideas and action plans students and districts have created. We are excited to hear and see the results of their courageous action steps. Kudos to all of you for taking steps to ignite the leader within!
Thank You!
