The book by John Green called The fault in our stars is a story follows the main character, Hazel Grace Lancaster, as she battles cancer. Through out the story, Hazel is trying to live the normal life of a 16-year-old girl, but Hazel has cancer so she is also struggling with what it will be like for her parents after she dies. While Hazel attends a church support group for cancer survivors that her parents are forcing her to go to, she meets a boy, Augustus Waters. Augustus has a type of cancer that caused him to lose his leg.
The first day the two met they fell madly in love. She makes Augustus read her favorite book and in return Hazel reads his favorite book, which is based off of a video game. The two of them bond over the book because both of them are dying to know what happens at the end of the book because it just stops in the middle of everything.
Augustus and Hazel's mother surprise Hazel with a trip to go meet Peter Van Houten, to provide the answers of the questions they have for the end of the book. Augustus even uses his only wish to fly him and Hazel to Amsterdam, so they can talk with him in person. While Hazel thinks she is the one that is doomed to die, Augustus reveals to her that on his recent scan the doctors discovered more cancer and so he is doomed to die too. The two of them spend the rest of Gus's life caring and loving each other.
