Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE)
Welcome to MWEE: Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience! MWEE is a great way to get your students out of the classroom and into the field to conduct an easy-to-follow, fully engaging, problem-based environmental study. The problem-based learning experiences are aligned to the new proposed Integrated Standards and will help educators to engage in the shifts in science education in the domain of Environmental Science.
ARIN IU 28 is happy to offer you training and support for this project-based, environmental exploration at no cost to your district.
This three part series includes:
1. Teachers complete a 3-hour online, asychronous course that can be found here.
2. Teachers attend a hands on session at the Jennings Environmental Education Center in Slippery Rock on February 11, 2022 (snow date - April 1, 2022). Registration is here.
3. In May or June teachers conduct a school yard or local area field experience with students followed by a classroom lesson. Assistance for this classroom experience can be scheduled with Lori Rodgers form.

Emerald eSports
Esports is a form of competition using video games. Esports often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams. We are looking for schools to create teams to play against each other in our region!
Similar to traditional sports, esports fosters a sense of community within one’s own school while providing the same soft-skill development that traditional sports offers
Both esports and traditional sports can accomplish the following:
Improved self-image
Correlation between team sport satisfaction and academic performance
Decreases risk of dropping out
Increases motivation to learn and work with peers
Improved communication skills
Esports also has a number of benefits associated with learning in areas that directly impact STEM education
Improved visual and motor skills
Educational inclusion for underrepresented groups in STEM
Teaches leadership
Opportunity for scholarships
English Language Learning
Emerald Sports is a non profit organization who received a PA Smart grant and are now partnering with IUs across PA to encourage participation in this growing field of eSports.

SCRIPT Workshop Series
SCRIPT creates a framework to strategically think about Computer Science implementation & connect with CSforALL members and resources for the problems education systems are trying to solve. In this workshop, team members will spend time reflecting on what their current CS offerings are and then plan for the future of program offerings for the district. Teams typically consist of an administrator, a guidance counselor, and at least two teachers who do/may teach computer science courses.
As part of this workshop, we will provide for follow-up (virtual) sessions at the 3, 6, and 12 month dates to provide any assistance that is necessary.
This workshop is available to be done in your district with your team. To schedule contact Lori Rodgers at lrodgers@iu28.org.
