Happy Holidays!
Wishing you all joy, health and happiness this holiday season!
Students at the Mall of America
What a great student turnout for our annual representative training meeting!
This is the best part of my job--finally meeting the students we work so hard to find homes for. It's wonderful seeing their smiling faces in person and knowing their dream of coming to the US was made possible due to loving host families, such as yours.

Holiday blues
The holidays can ring in times of fun and relaxation, but they can also bring on homesickness for the exchange students as they think of their friends and families back in their home country. Encourage your son/daughter to engage in American holiday celebrations and to share their holiday traditions with their you.
Keeping busy over holiday breaks is a great 'cure' to holiday induced homesickness.

Lucy from Taiwan
Yun-Lun, who goes by Lucy, is a 15 year old girl from Taiwan. She is an only child who currently studies in a girls only high school in Taiwan. Lucy is the class leader at her high school right now. "In the beginning is was really hard work for me." But after a few weeks she got organized and got used to it. Lucy likes to get involved in school activities like teaching children how to play diabolo. Lucy also keeps busy playing golf, she is a young amateur golf player who started playing for fun when she was 7 years old. Golfing has brought Lucy many opportunities to travel, she spent a year in China concentrating on her training. "I used to be shy before I went to China, but now I know how to take care of myself and being responsible, my personality has changed to be more outgoing." Other places Lucy has been to compete are Thailand, Hong Kong and America. She is quite an accomplished golfer, who would love to tell you more in person! When Lucy is not busy golfing, she likes to play the piano, violin, and guitar. Lucy is ready to spend more time getting to know the Western culture and wants to experience the differences of education and culture between the US and Taiwan. "Thank you for considering me to be part of your family." Lucy looks forward to meeting you in August!
Brunello from Italy
Bruno is a 16 year old who was born in Northern Italy--on his mother's birthday. They both share the zodiac sign, Aries--which as Bruno says, "I always head down to the goal!" He is determined to become an exchange student and a 'citizen of the world.' Bruno lives in an apartment in Italy with his parents and brother, whom he shares a room with. He attends school and a few days a week he plays golf, it is Bruno's "GREAT PASSION!" Bruno has been playing golf since he was 7 years old and is now an amateur player, "my handicap is 14 (and in Italy is starts from 36). His greatest dream is to be able to play golf during his stay in America. Bruno's other hobby is playing the piano, it helps him relax after studying. Bruno is ready to cook real Italian pizza for you! He is also ready to try local dishes, "it's a good way to get to know people!" Bruno is already packing his suitcase and cannot wait to tell you more, but he wants to tell you personally. "Do you want to host a young Italian boy with high hopes and great will? I hope so strongly!"
Lea from Germany
Lea comes from the northern part of Germany where she lives with her parents and younger brother. At school, Lea's favorite subjects are PE, math and art--even though she is not the best, "sometimes I'm surprised how good I can draw.." Lea studies Latin and English, English is her favorite because she can speak it with people from almost all over the world. After Lea ends her school day and home work, she meets with her friends and they spend their time together baking cakes and sometimes ice skating. "Mostly I like to bake chocolate cakes, chocolate is my favorite candy." Lea also rides horses at least once a week. She began riding horses when she was 6 years old and enjoys it very much. "I like horses and animals, because they trust you, if you trust them." Usually once or twice a year, Lea spends time with her friends at a pony farm where they can ride ponies two times a day, "every year the trip is a big adventure." Lea also remains active by practicing track and field four times a week, for her it is more than a sport. She would love to be able to continue that in the US, if not she is also open to something new. Lea is looking forward to becoming an exchange student because she wants to meet new people, become more self confident and wants to be fluent in English. She is ready to live and see the difference between Germany and America, "I'm very happy that you will give me the chance to do it."
