Congratulations to Mrs. Chernowsky on being a recipient of The Golden Owl Award. The Golden Owl Award recognizes outstanding agricultural educators. Students, fellow teachers, and other supporters can nominate their favorite agricultural teacher and summarize what makes them the best in Indiana.
Mrs. Chernowsky was one of 8 recognized in the state and will have an opportunity to win the title of Indiana Agricultural Educator of the Year. Congratulations Mrs. Chernowsky! We are very proud of you and how you represent the Blue River Valley FFA Program!
SAT Testing for Juniors on March 5th
All Juniors are required to participate in the SAT assessment at school. BRV will be testing on Tuesday, March 5th. If a student is absent on March 5th, he or she will be required to make-up the assessment upon returning to school.
The SAT assessment is a timed, online assessment consisting of the following:
Reading and Writing Test: 65 minutes for 55 questions, all multiple-choice
Mathematics Test: 70 minutes for 44 questions, 75% multiple choice and 25% numeric responses, calculators are allowed on all items.
Cell phones, smart watches, airpods, etc. are not allowed in the testing room.

8th Grade Parent Night
We will have an 8th Grade Parent Night for incoming Freshmen (Class of 2028) on Thursday, March 7th at 6:00 pm in the High School Cafeteria. Mrs. Clone and Mrs. Whaley will go over graduation requirements for high school as well as scheduling. This meet is a great opportunity for the parent to learn more about what is offered at Blue River Valley and be a part of their child's scheduling process. Jostens Visit
Jostens will be here on Thursday, March 21st during TA and lunch (11:30 am - 12:30 pm) to deliver caps and gowns to the Seniors. Seniors should be receiving a post card from Jostens with this information as well as how much is owed on the items ordered. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Jones in the office.

Junior Achievement
Blue River Valley is seeking business and community members that would like to visit classrooms (K-8) to teach about career readiness and career exploration through Junior Achievement programs. Volunteers may visit the classroom anywhere from one to seven times, or virtual volunteer opportunities are available as well. If interested, please fill out the Junior Achievement volunteer form HERE and the JA District Director, Melissa Davis, will reach out to you with more information.

BRV Viking 5K
Blue River Valley's Wellness Committee will be putting on their first 5K Run/Walk on April 20, 2024 at 9:00 am the school. See the entry form below. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hughes (anne.hughes@brv.k12.in.us).
Late Start Wednesday's
'Late Start Wednesday's' for the 2023-2024 school year began on August 16, 2023. On those days, school will begin at 8:30 am in both buildings. This means that the busses will run 30 minutes later on Wednesday mornings. We will release at our normally scheduled time of 3:05 pm. Our next 'Late Start Wednesday' is March 6, 2024.
Two Hour Delay Protocol - In the event of a 2-hour delay on a Wednesday, 'Late Start Wednesday' will be cancelled.
PM E-Learning Day on Wednesday Protocol - 'Late Start Wednesday' will NOT take place in conjunction with our already scheduled Wednesday PM E-Learning Days. School will run on time those days and release at 11:40 am.
Early Drop Off - Students who do not ride the bus may still be dropped off at 7:30 am (Monday - Friday) as we did last year. Those students will need to remain in the cafeteria on Wednesdays until 8:15 am.

Important Information for 2023-2024 School Year
Entrance at Door 1 - All students who enter the building after 8:00 am will have to enter through Door 1 only. We will not allow any students to enter through Door 2 during the school day (8:00 am - 3:05 pm).
Weather Delays - Please make sure that the school has your current phone number so that you will receive calls and text messages about school delays and closures.
Updates to Student Handbook - Please check the Jr/Sr High Student Handbook for all of the updates but I wanted to highlight a few before school begins.
- Students must be in attendance by 8:15 am to attend and/or participate in extracurricular practices, games and/or contests that day.
- If a student misses school on Friday, he or she must produce a note verified by the doctor in order to participate in any/all school activities the following day (Saturday).
- Good Standing - students who are not in good standing will not be allowed to participate in field trips, college visits, school dances, etc. See page14 for details.
- Cell phones - Junior high students are to leave them in their lockers but high schools students may carry them throughout the day. They are not to be visible in class unless approved by the classroom teacher.
Sick Child at School - If your child gets sick or feels sick at school, please remind them that the protocol is to report to the nurse in the office first. She will document symptoms and then inform parents when their child needs to go home. It is important that we are consistent and following protocols. Thank you for your assistance with this.
