Middle School Kids Can Be Mean to Each Other: Teaching Kids How to Forgive Becomes Important
Book Fair!
Did you know that reading 20 minutes a day with your child is the best investment your family can make in their future? Research shows that children who read just 20 minutes per day score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests. Come to the Book Fair to stock up on the books your child will love reading and ignite your home reading habits.
Please mark your calendars for our building’s Buy One Get One Free Book Fair! For every book or item purchased during the fair, you child will receive a free item of equal or lesser value. This is a great opportunity to stock up on books for summer reading.

Do you have an interest in the outdoors? Growing vegetables? We have good news for you! We are re-establishing the HAWK Friends Group this year and need YOUR help in making our Outdoor Learning Lab a success for students and families of Danville.
The mission of the Danville Community School Corporation Outdoor Learning Lab is to provide students with an opportunity to actively participate in interdisciplinary studies utilizing natural woodlands, wetlands and plant study areas. This year, a school garden is also being added to grow vegetables to donate to local food pantries.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
Here is an EASY way to say 'Thank you' to your teachers and staff! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th-10th! We are going to host a Mexican themed lunch on Friday, May 10th. We have a signup for parents to bring in items below. Please have items to Danville Middle School by 10:00 AM on Friday the 10th. THANK YOU for helping in this way!
Parent Transition Meeting
Parents of current South Elementary 4th graders are invited to attend a Parent Transition Meeting on the evening of Monday, May 20, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Parents will take part in a similar orientation to what students will experience. Our goal is to ease any anxiety on the part of both students and parents.

DCSC IS HIRING!
Come work with our great staff and students. DCSC is looking for individuals interested in becoming a substitute teacher, bus driver or kitchen help/server. Youth Leadership Summer Camp
The Indiana Sheriffs' Association will again be sponsoring two sessions of their Youth Leadership Summer Camps. The camp is a program provided for boys and girls who are currently in 7th or 8th grade and are interested in learning more about a possible career in law enforcement. The camp session dates and locations are: June 25-28 at Pine Creed Camp in Pine Village, IN (Warren County) or July 9-11 at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Morgantown, IN (Brown County).
Applications are available in the DCMS office or you may contact Heather Luce, DCMS Counselor, for an electronic copy.
Summer Reading & Writing Skills
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Office of Community Engagement, a non-profit organization, is proud to offer the Summer Reading Skills Program to families throughout Fishers, Greenwood, Indianapolis, and Kokomo. Since 2003, this program has helped students in our community build strong reading skills and develop a deep love of books and reading.
The program is designed and taught by the Institute of Reading Development, a nationwide leader in reading skills instruction. Since 1970, the Institute has taught more than two million students in partnership with colleges and universities across the United States. The Institute’s inspired instruction encourages a lifelong love of reading in every student.
- The program features a wonderful novel, effective materials, and fresh activities you won’t find anywhere else.
- Weekly classes and online lessons ensure that your middle schooler is consistently reading and practicing important skills throughout the summer.
- Your son or daughter will have an enjoyable experience and make great progress!

This helps you save time and money when back-to-school shopping. Parents that use EPI school packs save up to 40% compared to the same supplies from a national retailer.
Online order deadline is 6/12/19. Paper forms must be returned by 5/24/19.
