#EagleUp 12/5/21
Greetings Challenger Middle Families and Students,
I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weekend weather. Students will be STAR testing this week starting Tuesday, December 7th with Reading, then Wednesday they will take STAR Math. December 9th and 10th will be make-up days. Please encourage your child to get proper rest and nourishment each day before the test. Our faculty and admin team are very excited about our Winter STAR assessments because the results will guide us in planning classroom instruction moving forward.
Also, as a part of encouraging our students to give their best on both STAR assessments, we will be offering grade level celebrations for each grade level that improves our At/or Above percentage on both assessments. We will celebrate each grade level starting December 15th, during 6th and 7th periods. Our PTSA has graciously offered to provide a drink and slice of pizza for each student, in each grade level and our PBiS team will be giving out treats. Students will have time to eat their pizza and then we will have a movie in the AV Room.
We are two weeks away from the end of the semester. Now is a great time to encourage your child to have a conversation with their teachers about any missing assignments or grades. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) this week. Also, as you are checking grades weekly with your child, please take a moment and look at their browser history on their school-issued devices. Part of our Challenger Middle School S.O.A.R. principles is dedicated to using the internet safely and appropriately on school devices.

Angel Tree Gift Card Project
As a community service, Challenger Middle School has a Christmas Angel Tree for families who could use a little support this time of year. If you would like to help with this important project, come by the school and pick an angel from the tree in the lobby near the counselor’s office beginning Wednesday, December 1st. We ask that you purchase a Target or Walmart Gift card in the amount listed on your “angel” (anywhere from $10 to $50) and return the angel and gift card to the front office, or to Mrs. Hall, by Friday, December 8th at 3:00. Or simply call or email Lorie Hall to notify her of the amount of gift card that you would like to donate. Contact info is: lorie.hall@hsv-k12.org or 256-428-7620.
If you would like to be a recipient of the CMS Angel Tree project, please contact Lorie Hall in the counselor’s office. We will try to accommodate as many students as possible depending on the response to our request for gift cards. As always, Mrs. Hall will keep names confidential and will notify parents when they can pick up gift cards which should no later than Monday, December 13th.
Thank you!

Happy Holidays,
Attached are the last two virtual parent seminars for the year. We will be covering great topics such as Resiliency and Bully Proofing. This month we also have two great workshops for younger children, The Power of Music and Kids in the Kitchen.
As the year comes to an end, we want to thank everyone who has attended these events. We are grateful for the chance to support the military families in your community.
All the best,

Stopfinder allows parents to have peace of mind about not missing bus arrivals by notifying them when a bus is approaching assigned stops, as well as alerting parents when any changes occur, such as the bus being delayed. With advanced features such as the ability to easily monitor multiple children, establish geolocation alerts, and temporarily or permanently grant access to family members or other caregivers, Stopfinder makes it easy for parents to keep up with their child’s location during transit. Things to remember about Career Prep A
- This is your first high school grade. Whatever you earn will transfer with you.
- If you fail, you will take this semester class again in 9th grade.
- Do it right the first time!
- Take advantage of the 1 period a week we give you to work in Edgenuity at school.
- If you are absent on a Tuesday, plan on working at least 45 minutes from home to catch up.
- It's a good idea to work ahead in this course from home. Make some time for this class each day. (15 mins) Do not procrastinate!
- If you have questions, ask your teacher. Don't get behind because you didn't ask questions.
