PWNP June: Hygiene Kits
As communities reopen and summer heats up, hygiene is more important now than ever. Help People Who Need People (PWNP) create hygiene kits for local area shelters. Please shop for all necessary items to assemble a kit.
Under normal circumstances, we'd have bins at school available for drop-off. All donation orders will be delivered to an organizer's home for kit assembly. Please select "Randee Wilding" for shipping.
UPDATE
- Thank you so much! The boxes are already stacking. Once we've completed the first batch of donation requests, PWNP will add more items to the Amazon Wishlist.
- This effort will end on the last day of school, June 23rd!
- Friends and family are welcome to spread kindness by shopping too! Please feel free to share the Amazon Wishlist link or our PTA website post on social media:

What can we (the PTA) do?
I wanted to share with you a simplified list of suggestions received from our community for PTA activities, advocacy and questions. I have added notes, but have not removed any suggestions or questions.
The remainder of the 2019-20 school year
Activities
- Continue collecting read-alouds/story times [No issues with this one.]
- BINGO, dance or theme parties/activities allowing unstructured play and socializing [We've got three more BINGOs on the calendar for this schools year. We can certainly do a virtual dance party.]
- Virtual concert for band, orchestra and chorus students [We're looking into this.]
- Trivia night with background music [I think this would be an easy one to accomplish.]
- Student car parade, the reverse of the teacher parade [We're looking into this.]
- Digital time capsule, family and staff provided files
5th Grade Activities
- Private trivia game with prizes and music [We can do this.]
- Private hosted online video game with prizes [We can do this too.]
This summer
Activities
- Grade-level zooms [No issues with this. I was planning on terminating our Zoom subscription and switch to GoogleMeet.]
- Outdoor movies in parking lot, socially distanced [Nope, this isn't going to work on school property.]
- Led activity, game or magic show [If it's run by a parent or staff, no problem. If we're using a vendor, we need to gauge interest and require RSVPs]
- Grade-level student led activities or lessons [Fantastic!]
- Penpal program [Awesome!]
- Teacher-led activity series (Ex: PE, story time, cooking, etc.) [We would need to reinforce that it is a volunteer opportunity and in no way required.]
- Trivia night with background music [Yes!]
- Book club for primary and intermediate [Yes, please!]
- Where is Bushy Bear? Students send pics of what buddy is doing. [Yes!]
- Welcome to Kindergarten, Pre-K or to the school for transfers [Yes!]
- Scholastic is having a virtual summer book fair, 25% back to school [Yes!]
- Can homeroom parents help teachers in the summer to get ready for fall? Help pack or update classrooms? [Not sure about this one, but I think yes.]
- Pilot program for interest clubs (Ex: storytelling, joke, doodle, Zumba, yoga, etc.)* [Yes!] *This suggestion is from my friend at Terraset Elementary in the Fairfax County Public School system.
- Mini seminars on professions or interests by our community (Ex: medicine, writing, teaching, programming, farming, etc.)* [Yes!] *This suggestion is from my friend at Terraset Elementary in the Fairfax County Public School system.
The 2020-21 school year
Activities
- Provide opportunities for distance learning students to engage width classmates [Absolutely!]
- Grade-level or entire school activities [Absolutely!]
- Trivia night with background music [Absolutely!]
- If back to school, a parade for 5th graders to say goodbye to teachers and walk the halls [TBD]
- Diversity table(s) in cafeteria to promote cross-cultural discussions [Need to discuss this one more.]
Advocacy
- Use only proven safe cleaning agents in school and minimize student contact with cleaning agents [Need to discuss this one more and understand how these decisions are made for the county. Stay abreast and keep community informed of decisions.]
- Lower stress by remove or replace Class Dojo system [Need to discuss this one more. I would encourage whoever suggested this reach out directly to Mrs. Bialeski and Mr. West with concerns.]
If you feel strongly for any of these suggestions and would like to lead one or more, please email bpesptapres@gmail.com. The more people we have volunteer to help, the more we will be able to accomplish. Please consider helping.
