April 26, 2024
Hello Spicewood Family!
We hope that everyone had a great week. I am a little mad at the weather right now because as of now we have not received the forecasted rain and thunderstorms that was highly predicted. We had to make a decision on Wednesday due to the equipment rentals that are involved with Field Day. Next week does not look much better but we will continue to monitor conditions. Our absolute last resort will be to plan indoor field day activities.
In the PTA section of the newsletter you will see some activities and suggestions planned for Teacher Appreciation Week which is celebrated May 6th- 10th. The theme this year is Best Teachers and Staff in the World!
Have a great weekend!

SWES students had an outstanding performance: earning 1st place (Sharan S.), 2nd place (Jacob M.) & 3rd place (Narain K. & Aadi J.) in the individual entries event. Congratulations! SWES students continue to display their mathematical prowess, and demonstrate that they rank among the best mathematicians on their grade level.
Congratulations to Nitya B.!

ROUND ROCK ISD students received 30 Top of TEAM! Congratulations to the following students whose work was recognized with a Top of TEAM medal including one of our own Spicewood students. Congratulations Nitya!

Earth Day 2024
arth Day was Monday, April 22nd, and we extended our celebration over the course of the week! This year’s Earth Day theme is Planet vs. Plastics.
Students learned about the history of Earth Day, several Spicewood teachers shared about the sustainable choices they make, and grade levels further explored Earth Day in their own way.
Our fifth graders heard from an Austin sustainable fashion designer, Silvia García (Silvi G), about “Sustainable Fashion and the Environmental Impact of Polyester.” She shared insights on how our clothing choices can impact the planet. Our 5th graders were and still are encouraged to bring in clothing they would trade with a friend, so all can participate in our clothing swap. We’ll be setting up a free “thrift shop” in the 5th grade portable next week and beyond. All remaining clothes will be donated to a local organization. Check out Heartening to find out where to give all types of items in Austin, Texas! Ridewell is also a great service that several Spicewood families are utilizing to recycle no longer needed items!
