Weekly Update
Week of September 12-16
Late Start Monday school starts 8:35
Hello everyone. What a week! The kids have all worked so hard this week. This week has been all about creating a sense of care, connection, and community. Our students have been busy getting to know each-other, learning routines and practicing school expectations. Please know your children have been asked to attend and be active from 7:00-2:00 all week. Remember every week won’t be like the first few weeks. The first weeks of school can be an emotional rollercoaster for everyone. In addition to increased nerves, the first week of school also brings grumpier children at night. Getting back into the school routine can be hard! During the first week of school, your children are learning the new rules and expectations. It’s a lot! After keeping it together all day at school, they may have more meltdowns when they get home that first week. This is normal! Try to be patient, and sometimes an earlier bedtime might help combat that back to school exhaustion. Please reach out to us if you would like additional support!
Late start Monday School starts at 8:35 on Mondays. Please arrive at 8:15 if your child needs breakfast.
**Please do not drop students off before 7:10 (or 8:10 on Mondays). Our staff do not report to school for their contract hours until 7:10**
Thank you to our PTO for putting on such a fun BBQ at our open house! Thank you to all the families that made time to come by and visit the teachers and classrooms. We were so happy to finally be able to welcome everyone INSIDE the school.

Meals Update
A message from Jordan Hass, Nutrition Services Director: The van we use to safely transport hot food to Cascade Locks Elementary is undergoing emergency repairs. It is taking longer than anticipated to fix. We have the replacement part ordered, and anticipate it only being out of commission for the first two weeks of school. During that time students will still have access to all of the usual fresh fruit and veggies in the salad bar, and an assortment of meal options that don't require hot transport including deli sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly.
Please note that the district lunch menu will not represent the meal options for CLES for the first TWO WEEKS. .
Meal Options week 2
Turkey sandwich
Ham sandwich
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
ExCEL Sign up closes Sept 11
ExCEL, Extended Community Enriched Learning, is a HRCSD program that is funded through a five-year grant administered by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). ExCEL is an academic enrichment program that offers activities for students after school. ExCEL is free to all student who enroll. Because ExCEL is a completive grant attendance in the program is critical. Students will be expected to maintain consistent attendance to stay in the program.
Please note it is not first come first serve. Excel is a federally funded program that requires students with the highest needs to have priority access. Registration closes Sept 11 and families will be notified by the 14th about enrollment. ExCEL will start September 19th.
