Track Club Starts Tomorrow
Did you know exercise not only helps your body, but it also helps us learn? It is true! Exercise is crucial for cardiovascular health but also stimulates brain growth! It helps kids focus, stick to a plan, and may even make learning easier. Want to learn more about how exercise helps children, check out this article!
Track Club is a great opportunity to increase physical fitness for our students. Here is what you might want to know:
- Track Club is all about growing a love for exercise!
- Students are encouraged to participate three days a week (depending on the weather).
- Each recess, we ask students to run one lap around the cones (¼ of a mile). They can run, jog or walk...it's their choice!
- For each lap, students earn 1 Track Ticket (worth ¼ of a mile). Classroom teachers will collect tickets and record miles for each student.
- Running Clubs: Students are encouraged to set goals for themselves and work to join the four running clubs. We have clubs for students who run 25, 50, 75, and 100 miles. Students will earn a bracelet for each club they join!
As a school, we compare totals and throw in a bit of healthy competition to see who can run the most miles as a class.
Students can check out the Track Club Bulletin Board will show class totals.

Free Immunization Clinic
The Oregon Health Authority requires all children to have up-to-date immunizations or an exemption by a certain date each year to stay enrolled in a public or private school. For the 2021-22 school year, that date is April 20.
To help students get up to date, Canby School District is hosting a free immunization clinic for students under 18 who are on the Oregon Health Plan or do not have health insurance. COVID-19 vaccines are available to all at no cost. The clinic will take place at Ackerman School on April 11 from 4-7 p.m.
Free Vision Screenings
Free vision screenings are coming up! Canby School District works with the Oregon Lions Club to provide these screenings each year at all of our elementary schools for grades K-6 and Ninety-One School for grades K-8. It is painless and is done from a distance, not touching the child’s eyes or face. Most children pass the exam, and those results are not sent home, except by request. For children whose no-passing results warrant follow-up with a specialist or health-care provider, results will be sent home to the parent or guardian.
This year’s screening will take place at Lee School on May 3rd starting at 9:15. To opt out of the screening, please contact the school office.
For questions or information on financial assistance for a child’s vision issues, please contact the district nurses.
Essential Volunteers, We Need You!
After Spring Break we will be signing Essential Volunteers up to help work with students at school and/or attend classroom field trips.
If you would be interested in participating in either of these volunteer opportunities, you can begin the process now by filling out a Volunteer Application at this link. Once you complete the Volunteer Application (Background Check), you will be asked to show proof of having a COVID vaccination or an exemption. After this process is completed, you will be all set to volunteer!
We are so excited to see you back at school!

It Is Kindergarten Registration Time!
If you have a student who will be five years old by Sept. 1, then get ready for our Kinder Kick-offs! These events will be held in-person at each of our elementary schools and will help incoming students imagine a day in the life of a kindergartner. They’ll have a chance to tour the school, meet the teachers and principal, and even receive a welcome gift bag.
Otherwise check out your neighborhood school on April 12 from 6-7 p.m. If you need help determining which school your child should attend, use the Clackamas County Address Checker. Families are welcome to enroll their students ahead of time as registration is open online now.
If you think a Spanish and English K-12 educational program might be right for your student, then please join the first kick-off on April 5 from 6-7 p.m. at Trost Elementary, Canby’s dual language immersion magnet school.
