What's Happening at Log College...virtually
On a more serious note, we are going to attempt to get a Smore out every week through the end of the school year. They may each have a little less content than our bi-weekly Smores, but it will help us to stay in contact more frequently, and provide some positive stories about what is going on with our students, teachers, and families.
As the weeks roll on, one thing has become abundantly clear: we miss working with the Log College students on a daily basis, and want nothing more than to go back to normal. Stay well and take care of each other!
Essay Winner!
Our very own Anne Pallozzi, 7th Grader at Log College, was proudly named the 3rd place winner of the Ben Strauss Youth Program Teen Essay Contest for Middle School. The Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia hosts this essay contest annually. Teens from Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Philadelphia and Delaware Counties were invited to write an essay about their experience with having cancer in their life. Anne bravely and eloquently shared her family’s struggle with cancer in her writing. Congratulations Anne! We are so proud of you!

Student Reflection Piece
My experience in quarantine is similar to Anne’s experience in the annex. We both have to sacrifice the things we love to do. We don’t get to hang out with our friends or go to the movies. It gets frustrating sometimes. We spend 100% of the time with our families, which is nice but sometimes we get on each other's nerves. Being forcefully stuck can trigger stress and silly arguments and then we realize just like Anne’s family did that it was just silly and regret our words.
My experience in quarantine is different from Anne’s family in the annex for a few important reasons. I’m not living in fear. I’m not afraid of someone finding me and capturing me and taking me away from my family. I know that eventually things will go back to normal. I don’t have to stay quiet all day and I can always go take a walk outside and get some fresh air. I still get to play my video games and I don’t have to worry about food. I am one of the lucky ones.
I can share my quarantine story with people to just describe how I am feeling. Sometimes it helps when I´m stuck just to be able to write or talk about how I am feeling. When this is all over I can share my experience with someone else and ask about theirs.

The Rules of Survival
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book filled with suspense. This is due to the fact that this book has many moments in which the reader is on the edge of his/her seat waiting for what is going to happen next. I would also recommend this book to anyone who has issues with their family life because the book comes from a child’s point of view who has a lot going on at home. This could be very relatable to anyone who has issues with parents not acting the way they should or who is missing parent figures. However, the book touches on stuff like this a lot, which could be too much for some people going through similar issues to handle. Overall, this book is very entertaining and could be a good fit for anyone looking for suspense or a book to relate to.

The Fever Code
Something that stands out about this book that I noticed is that it is similar to what is happening now in the real world. I think this because the main point of the book is that there are only a hand-full of kids that are immune to a virus called "The Flare.” A secret society called WICKED is doing blood tests on these kids to find out what is making them immune to the virus. WICKED is also doing tests to find a cure to this deadly virus. Therefore, the thing that stands out the most to me is how this book is similar to what is currently happening in the world today.
